Does anyone on here have OCD?

I appologize for over-reacting. :o I have no excuse but being a bit over-sensitive on the subject. Carry on.

I think you’ve got it wrong, lobstermobster. The rule is don’t be a jerk.

You might want to stay out of these threads if you can’t keep from breaking that rule. Your stay here will last that much longer.

lobstermobster:

A good friend of mind has OCD. It is a disease whose manifestations are often unbelievably absurd.

YOU think… or did Guin report that post so that you could do her dirty work for her?

You don’t have to answer that.

lobstermobster’s behavior in this thread was inappropriate regardless of the number of reported posts, whether zero or two hundred. Reports only alert us to a potential problem; they don’t make any decisions for us.

Your post, however, was little more than a personal swipe. Keep it in the Pit.

I don’t know if it’s clinically OCD, but I’m obsessed with not making the same mistake twice.

For instance, I once left the coffee pot plugged in, with little coffee left in it, all day long–a potential fire hazard. I grill my wife about shutting off the coffee pot every time we leave the house together. Did I shut it off? Did she? Is she sure she looked and made sure the pot was off before she left the house? If she says she’s not sure, I’ve got to U-turn back to the house to check.

Another time, I added a quart of oil to the car and then drove off with the oil cap on top of the strut tower under the hood. several hundred miles down the road, I saw a wisp of oil smoke from up near the cowl and pulled over to find a mess under the hood and the engine 2 quarts low on oil.

Since then,if I’ve checked and/or added any underhood fluid to the car–even washer fluid, I end up popping the hood at the very first stop sign or stoplight thereafter to make sure I’ve replaced all caps and seated all dipsticks. If I’ve checked air pressure in the tires, I stop first chance I get to make sure I’ve capped all the valve stems.

Come to think of it, I have been late to places because of all this double checking, which I guess is a “disruption” of my life, so I probably do have a form of OCD.

To be fair, I do have it under control nowadays. My main problems are re-checking. (Worrying constantly that I unplugged my curling iron, that I DID turn in a request or schedule change at work, etc).

Other than that, I just have to worry about epilepsy, poor eyesight, and the occassional migraine. (And anyone who implies that migraines are just "bad headaches DO need to be Pitted and strung up by their toenails).

I have to get my glasses checked-I seem to have been given the wrong prescription*. But other than that, things are pretty good.

*I’m nearsighted, but they seem to be more like reading glasses. I can see upclose fine-it’s magnified. Distance wise, it’s the same as my old ones. Which were almost ten years old. :frowning:
