As a Firefighter and EMT I have a very large interest in the safety features in a car, because I have to go through them to get to you inside the car! Those super steel reinforcement bars in the doors are an absolute bitch to cut. Airbags can pickup and throw firefighters out of the car if they go off as were leaning in to help you out. Foam in the A, B, and C posts make them so they take a much longer time to cut (those posts are the posts that hold the roof on the car). Seatbelt pretensioners and side impact airbags add explosive regions onto the car that I cannot cut to get you out. The safer cars get, the harder it is to get you out.
