I got such an email, though I don’t know who it was from and no one has come forward yet.
I left because of the issues Revtim mentions. The incessant sock- and troll-hunting and, of course, the “If you don’t like it, leave!” comments I was getting.

I don’t, no. There are other smart people online and I’m looking forward to them, along with the weirdos, finding their way here. I really think we needed new people and we’ll start to get them - although we’re getting back older people first. I got the sense in a lot of places that tempers were fraying because posters had been arguing with the same group of people for a long time.
Let us handle it. Some of us like this part of the job.
That’s debatable. Some jerks were willing to pay money to get their kicks, others could get the job done in 30 days, and others took advantage of generous people in the sponsorship thread. P2P may or may not have kept out jerks but it definitely kept out other people, both older posters and others who just weren’t going to pay money to post on a message board. I don’t want this place to be a country club.
I’m running low on socks. So, if any size 14 white crew-length socks visit the SDMB, please send them my way.
Thanks! It’s great to be back - though I haven’t contributed anything beyond “WOOHOO!”-type posts. There’s always tomorrow
I’m very happy that P2P is gone. It was a terrible idea in the first place and the SDMB had gotten horribly stagnant and boring as a result. just my humble opinion.
I agree completely. Although I wasn’t around when it went P2P, I can see already by the huge number of guests posting that the change is going to inject new life into the place.
Another vote for we need new blood – and a return of some of the old blood who left when we went P2P. I think it’s a good thing – though the Mods will have a busy time of it.
I’s new and we’re gonna totally pwn ur azzez.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HA
I have mixed feelings. Back when it was free before, the crazies were coming out of the woodwork. But I’m hoping the old members that are trickling back in will bring back the funny.
I’m so happy it’s back to free. Posters I really missed a lot are already back and posting. I missed the crazies who would periodically make this place interesting. I missed seeing a regular influx of new names and new personalities. I miss having the forums move so fast that the front page real estate was actually important. The years before p2p were awesome.
I think it’s great to see some old names back. I just wish all the returning members and new members could just get one sticky post to say hello in because all the “I’m back/new here” threads are causing all the really important MPSIMS threads to drop fast. It makes it harder to keep up to date on where some guy got his penis stuck, tropical storm/hurricane updates and who has new kittens/puppies.
I don’t get you.
If it’s an interesting reply does it suddenly become worthless if the poster has a low post count?
Meh, well, it’s not.
Funnily, I found out it was free when logging on for a regular day of lurking.
Nah, I was up for renewal any day now! Perfect timing for me!
The what?
*bolding mine–sc
That’ll get taken care of in due time, but I’m not sure why the post count itself matters.
Careful there, you’re a long way from GQ…
Until the board’s reliability improves, my concern is about being able to post at all, not about too many posters…
Back in the day, the appeal of this place was, in part, that you met someone new every day.
Every day.
And sometimes those people were no fun at all, and sometimes they were. But there was always something new.
And that something new, over the course of several years, grew into a lot of fun. Yes, sometimes things were bad, but overall, they were pretty nice.
I am back because things are free. The reasons I left have, except for the fee removal, not changed, but now I can just say to myself, “You get what you pay for,” and know that I’m not shelling out any money to support the things I don’t like and that aren’t going away any time soon.
I’m glad to see many of the folks I missed are back, and really, every additional “Oh, hey!” is one more than I would have had.
So no, I don’t wish the board were still P2P.
You’re so sweet. Are all the men from Pen Island like you?
