Does anyone still deliver actual flower arrangements (need answer fast)

All I see online is “delivered in gift box (vase included!)” which means that you get a box of flowers and a vase, and you have to make the arrangement yourself.

I want someone to walk up to their door with a finished flower arrangement, and I would really like to be able to arrange it over the internet. I have tried FTD and 1-800-flowers, and no good.

Price is a secondary consideration (although I am not rich). This is for a pretty special occasion.

Call a florist local to the recipient.

Do a google map search of the recipient’s address, search for “flowers near: blah”, and see if there are any local flower shops. A small shop may still deliver actual arrangements.

Just curious…what was it about ftd or proflowers/floristsexpress that you didn’t like? Don’t they both have “local florist” links?

Florists do it around here. I’ve never had a problem finding floral arrangements to be delivered long distance. Never had a problem finding them, but there have been problems with getting them actually delivered.

I ordered 2 arrangements for a funeral last week through justflowers.com. They were delivered pre-arranged, in vases.

1-800-flowers has delivered vased arrangements for me in the past. There might be a selection somewhere in the website where you select for a local florist to deliver, like an FTD florist from days gone by. The only reason I can think of that you wouldn’t get that for an option is that the delivery address you want them to go to actually has no local florist to make the delivery. You can likely confirm that by doing what others have suggested by doing a google map search of the address you want them delivered to.

Not all local florists do the teleflora/FTD/delivery network thing, so you might be able to find one you can just call and make the arrangement over the phone. I started doing this because ordering through the websites you have to allow for substitutions - what’s pictured isn’t always what the local florist actually has on-hand. If you call, they can tell you what would look great right now and what they have on-hand for deliveries. You also get more for your money since the florist doesn’t have to pay a middle-man. I just use the websites for ideas and names of things to ask for.

I’ve never had flowers delivered in a gift box. Is this a regional thing? Local florists around here deliver arrangements in a vase as a matter of course.

I just looked on 1-800-flowers, and while I do see a lot that say “delivered in a gift box,” over half of the entries in my zip code say “same-day local florist delivery.” It must have something to do with where the OP is located.

I had no idea it was even possible to deliver loose flowers in a box with a separately boxed vase. I mean, unless I went out and picked the flowers and stuffed them in a box myself. You didn’t contact Diamonds02 Floral Service, did you?

Whadja do to screw up?

Absolutely, florists still do this.

I agree with Googling it to find a local flower shop, give them a call, give them your budget and see what they have right there and now on hand.

The beauty of this is that they are local and giving the best of what they have, and not trying to match some photo shot in Hawaii 9 years ago or wherever. Plus, if there is a problem, the recipient can go directly to the source to complain.

This is also a great approach to buying gifts for someone who lives far away - saves postage and the trouble of shipping items, good for the environment (no shipping) and good for the local economy. Best way to do Christmas shopping and also getting a cool local gift for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

As a former florist owner it is almost always better to contact a florist in the location you want the arrangement delivered to. When you use a service such as FTD or Teleflora the florist that fills the order only gets 75% of the price you pay while the wire service or the florist where you make the order gets a 25% cut. Also, the prices from 1800flowers.com prices are so rediculously low that we either refused the orders or they would have to call the customer back and get approval to add a delivery charge.

In general you get better value when ordering directly from the local florist.

My husband ordered a dozen roses online (I don’t remember from who) for a Valentine’s gift for me a couple of years ago. They were delivered on Valentines Day by UPS in a cardboard box. At 8pm. And they were frozen. :frowning:

He said he would never again purchase flowers on the internet.
