Does Babylon 5 get any better? (pilot episode spoilers)

In response to Mika’s spoiler box:

Delenn’s Crowning Moment of Awesome (“If you value your lives, be somewhere else!”) in “Severed Dreams” still gives me chills just from memory.

Just watched ‘A view from the Gallery’ again

[spoiler]Loved the bit when Mack and Bo where talking about Ivanova - ‘I heard she left because she wanted more money’

Oh yes.

From a tech-geek point of view, I would also like to point out that that same episode introduced a new Human fighter, the Thunderbolt Starfury. You will see more of that cool looking ship alongside the Aurora Starfury (the one we’ve seen thus far). There is also a blooper from that episode where the Major is explaining how the General died… General Hague… is doing Deep Space Nine. It seems he was double-booked by his agent, there was nothing to be done. (probably spoilers for at least half of season 3 in there, so you might want to finish it before you watch the clip)

Told ya!

You are now entering “wham” territory. Every episode but one for the rest of the season will hit you like an anvil. Strap in…it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Eeeee! Now I want to stop my week-long MST fest and join in…
mmm, Marcus.

I know, he is tasty, with those big blue eyes and dark hair.

And an Englishman’s teeth. swoon!

-Joe

Wait, I thought the English had proverbially bad teeth?

Clearly, we need a Marcus Appreciation Club here on the Dope.

Sarcasm. Sorry, thought it was obvious.

-Joe

To be fair, Marcus isn’t strictly English, though he is descended from English people.

I thought we needed a couple of pics:

I just rewatched the last few episodes and while I know why it was done (dramatic effect), it always bothered me that they blew up Babylon 5 at the end. Millions of tons of salvageable metal and you blow it up? The station is a hazard to navigation but lots of big chunks of it floating off in all directions isn’t? I mean, at the very least if you aren’t salvaging it you could drop it into the sun. Stupid.

I think it’s in Melissa Gilbert’s contract that in the last episode of any series she stars in (however briefly), they’re required to blow up the town/station. Her agent’s good…

If they hadn’t done that, they’d be making Ivanova a liar.

So…
I finished season 4 last night. And it pretty much seems like it’s finished - I mean, all of the plot threads barring the telepaths are wrapped up; they showed a big “Deconstructions” episode, everyone’s stories have an ending.

So what is in Season 5???

Enough to keep you interested if you can stomach the first half-dozen or so episodes (the Byron story line).

The problem with Season 5 was that nobody knew if they were GETTING a Season 5. Straczinski had to compress the last two seasons of his planned arc into one season and finish up the big Shadows storyline in Season 4. Which means that when they DID get a 5th season, he had no real story arc in place. Which is why a good half of Season 5 feels like Season 1 (without O’Hare’s horrible acting).

But Sleeping In The Light is still one of the best finales of any science fiction series ever.

It’s dusty in here.
