Does Brit Hume forget what hosing did mean to black people?

Cripes, you don’t read: on post 14 i mentioned:

I did not express it well, but I am saying that with what other dopers said that it is very likely that he is not saying anything racist, the omitted rest of his reply up was the item that in reality deserved the pit.

It’s true I haven’t read the thread. I saw the title of your OP went from there.

It’s admirable that you recanted, but the original assumption speaks volumes. Are we next going to have someone become incensed over the word “colored” because of what it once meant to black people? There is very little difference. You really had to stretch to come up with that one.

But again, it is admirable that you acknowledged you misunderstood the term, and that speaks highly of you in my opinion.

Maybe this concept is simply beyond you. And for that, you cannot be held responsible.

I’ll just leave you with this: you said,

Well, that wouldn’t be an error of jumping the gun. Jumping the gun would be an accurate explanation if you had NOT been aware of the full answer, yet posted what you did before checking to see if there was more that he said.

So, the fact that you intentionally shortened his answer so you could then throw shit on him shows that you are the worst kind of knee-jerk partisan—unfair and cheap.

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve just lost a great deal of whatever credibility you had on this Board. Sure some of the equally myopic partisans will probably still rally around you, and that will be a service you provide, albeit accidentally. As it will reveal others that the rest of us should not take seriously.

For some strange reason, I’m starting to feel a little sorry for GIGO. He (I’m assuming GIGO’s a he) just doesn’t seem to be himself in this thread. There’s a disjointedness, clumsiness and half-heartedness to his posts that is quite a bit different than I’ve seen of this poster before. It’s almost as though fatigue or alcohol is taking a toll on him. His postings in this thread are not representative of what I’ve seen of him elsewhere.

Either that, or one of his former Berkeley cohorts has come for a visit and is taking a turn at his keyboard.

Anyway, I hope everything’s okay with you, GIGO. Believe it or not, I really do.

Funny, I never thought I had that much credibility.

Besides, I have you number magellan01, I have seen you before in action and I don’t need a priory evidence to conclude you are not the sharpest thing out there. And I have seen many more dismiss your sorry opinions, this last one also deserves to be.

Speaking of partisanship (you really think you can forget this do you?) the full answer from Hume in the end was worse, the first section that I used (as I abide by the consensus of the dopers) was not bad for Hume then, the dunderheaded thing is still not realizing that the rest of reply of Hume was worse now that we can agree that Hume did not meant ill for his first part. Once again, you are calling attention to it, and once again I thank you for it.

Well, it was an MMP and it is true, I am not feeling well. Nothing serious, but colds can get me to not see the forest for the trees, not noticing that the real pit of Hume was needed to be directed at his complete reply was a misstep.

Okay, then. I’m glad to hear it’s nothing serious.

I’m sorry, I guess I should have closed the loop for you. See if you can follow this: if you are unfair and cheap and dishonest and irretrievably partisan and have shown yourself to be someone that should not be taken seriously, people are not going to engage with you. That’s why it’s so important to be honest and fair. That, and being able to sleep well at night.

But by all means, keep digging.

P.S. You may want to work on your writing. Or not, now that fewer people will be reading it.

A while ago, I did demonstrate how silly it was for you to deny Bush ordered changes to facilitate torture; you never accepted that you were wrong. So I do sleep well at night even with a cold, thank you very much.

You keep saying that you are engaging, but I only see your cowardice by constantly not dealing with what Hume said in the rest of his reply that you insist should have been considered so as to not be cheap and dishonest:

I’m also on the record as accepting that my grammar is a crime against nature.

I could make the excuse that this is just a message board, and that I have a life elsewhere, but I do consider that it is better to be right with bad grammar rather than be someone who writes pretty but misleads. Therefore: Hume’s complete answer was not racist, it was however a lie and chockfull of bias, the perfect exhibit of what Fox is.

Assuming that that good ole boy ever knew what anything meant to black people is assuming a lot.
