Kyber – you might be confusing judgement with punishment. The Catholics do teach there are degrees of hell, with a few scriptures to back that idea up.
That doesn’t give a lot of flexibility to those in the hell thread who claim that the real pain of hell is all about separation from god. What, there are degrees of separation from god? The ones in the upper layer of hell don’t inspire quite as much loathing in the almighty?
Yeah, good point. Not my fault the catechism reads like it was written by a thousand divinely inspired monkeys with typewriters. But it wouldn’t be very just if Gaudere and Hitler shared the same cell, right?
I’m convinced I’ll be sharing a cell with some fundie like FriendofGod who’ll be blindly convinced he is in fact in heaven. “Wake up, Joel! Oh joyous Tuesday morning! Time for the divine hot orifice pokers of God’s love. Ain’t heaven great!” You would think the prospect of that would make me change my ways…
