I remember a Cambodian vendor who was quite miffed about a $20 bill that had a wrinkled corner - she didn’t want to take it, apparently. But yeah, they really like US currency in general.
Yeah, don’t know what I was thinking. I even have a few of them. It was uncommon to see them, though. I don’t remember seeing coins in Egypt, but that was long ago.
You’re a numismatist, samclem?
No, he’s a very confused rare fish breeder.

Shush, I’ve been gone awhile. For some reason I thought he was in accounting.
Also, I wonder if it’s hard to get very confused rare fish to mate.
Paul in Saudi could confirm, but I don’t recall ever getting coins in Saudi Arabia. The smallest note is 1 Riyal, which is worth about 27 cents.
There are Egyptian coins, but they are not common.

Thanks samclem, 633squadron, and Edward the Head for the offers. I’ll get ahold of you once I have a better idea of how many coins I need for each country.
What I want to do is make a map of the world, mosaic style, using coins as my “tiles”. It’s going to have to be pretty big to get any detail.
So, what’s the smallest country? Guess I should scale my map according to that country being one coin.
Oh, Arg! Google tells me the smallest country is Vatican City at .2 square miles. If I made a map to scale, that would be really really big. I shall have to fudge my borders somewhat for the little bity countries.
So, Vatican City has a coin, but it is considered a collectors item. Rats, I was hoping to keep this fairly cheap.
Now my new question is if there are countries that don’t have their own money at all.
How valuable is the Pope Benedict coin? From what I’d heard the real prize for a collector was a Pope John Paul coin, especially so when it was obvious he was close to death.
I don’t think that you can get individual coins from the Vatican, or some of the smaller countries in Europe. I know people pay a good price to get proof sets from the Vatican and I’m pretty sure they don’t have single coins.
I wouldn’t worry too much about scale for an art project. Plus I’m not sure how many of the smaller countries use their own money.
As long as you don’t put restrictions on the dates of the coins(say, the last five years), then I can get you a Vatican coin for .25
I probably have a Pope John Paul coin for $1.
Used fish tank–$10 plus shipping
Lichtenstein springs to mind. They use the Swiss Franc. Kirabati and Tuvalu use the Australian Dollar.
Hey Neat! My orginal plan was to use all brand-new coins, but after the replies I realized I wouldn’t be able to do that for every country.
How big is the tank?
