Does getting evicted affect your credit rating?

Uhh… that’s it.

Does getting evicted affect your credit rating?

Anyone?

First the disclaimer: by posting to this thread I am not offering you or anyone else legal advice. If you, or a friend, are facing eviction, you should consult an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction. If your question is motivated by anything other than idle curiosity, you should consult a lawyer licensed in your jurisdiction. Consult your state bar if you need an attorney referal. I’m not your lawyer. You’re not my client.

Now on to your question. The short answer is yes an eviction can affect your credit rating. As I understand it (and I am not an expert on this) in determining your credit score, the credit bureaus consider several factors, including whether there are any judgments against you. If a landlord prevails in an action to evict you, there will be a judgment against you. This will be a matter of public record, and available to the credit rating agencies.
