I have heard a few people say (not here) God loves America above all countries. And that America is the new Israel. Is their any biblical reason for this belief? Anybody here who believes this who is willing to explain this belief?
No, the belief is a relgious form of what is known as jingoism.
Maybe they got the idea from this song. Or not.
Anyone wish to bet as to whether or not the USA is actually mentioned in the Bible at all?
So God loves the USA but he lives in France and he’s on the side of the German Wehrmacht.
Sounds typical enough.
Of course He does. Where’s the debate?
When I’ve heard similar things, they’ve been associated with this:
When I heard abouty it the fella who was talking about it said that if not for Washington’s vision he would go insane. So, I immediately linked to snopes and several Revolutionary War web sites. At that point, he was only able to preserve his sanity by saying, “Absence of evidence is not evdence of absence.”
He also belived that the Illuminati was out to get America. The invasion of Iraq was going to lead to a weakening of the US’s defenses by having so many of out troops over seas and the Socialist Sodomite Nations would subsequently invade. Or something like that.
Anyway, I’ve not heard from him in quite a while.
As I understand it, there were similar rumors about England going around a while back.
Some people even decided that England was the Holy Land and that some conspiracy plotted to convince everyone that the Holy Land was instead in the Levant.
If God loved America he wouldn’t have peopled it with Americans.
This should be in a new SDMB Forum called “Moronic Questions”.
Funny I thought God was busy Keeping my land Glorious and Free…
But if you want to believe he has time to bless your nation… you can… (Turns to the side crosses eyes and makes a circular motion around his temple with his finger)
MajorK,
You may have to look elsewhere for someone who holds that belief.
Yes, well he doesn’t look like a very rational being.
He also loves the Jews and where does he people them?
In Israel, of all places!!
I mean have you read his book? Jeez…
trabi I’d stick to basketball
If anything, God is probably disgusted by America.
Considering this picture, taken by an American satellite and displayed on a US Government website, I’d say God’s not too happy with the universe as a whole.
If God loves America above all others, why did he allow 9/11 to happen?
Think about it. If anything, God is freakin’ PISSED at our country. (And for good reason, IMO.)
God’s on the side of those with the better generals and bigger cannons.
Job got tired of hearin’ that kind of thing all the time.
His chosen people sure have had it rough.
Not all human action is directly ascribable to God. Some of it is human initiated.
Since no one is taking this all that seriously, here’s a Canadian views.
The Lord and Michael and watching creation when God turns to Michael. “Watch this, I’m going to craft a beautiful country filled with majestic mountains, clear waters, towering trees and vast grasslands filled with all manner of creatures. The people will be filled with love for one another, gentle humour and a deep sensec of peace.” Michael looks impressed. “But Lord, how can you so blatantly bless such a people?” “Not to worry” God replies, “look who I’m giving them as neighbourghs.”
Well I don’t believe in G-d anyway, so what I said was merely for argument’s sake.
If I may be so bold to speak my mind (and risk a “Pitting”), maybe the Jews would have had it easier over the last 6,000 years if they didn’t complain so goddamn much.
No. Most definitely please, speak your mind and let us all hear about this uppity Jewishness business.
How so?
Just because they wouldn’t’ve had to listen to each other?
Or are you saying that their complaining somehow has led to, caused, or otherwise contributed to their persecutions thoughout history and around the globe?
