My friend once told me that for each time you slam your head, it moves your brain around in your skull and kills about a billion brain cells. I doubt this, because it seems to hurt my neck and back muscles more than my head. I’m curious about this because I went to a Metallica concert last night and my neck is still stiff and sore, but i dont feel any dumber(but i probably looked pretty dumb slamming a mile a minute for most of the concert:D )
I just don’t know how to begin…
:smack:
What do you mean?
What youre talking about is a coup, contrecoup injury. The ventral portion of the inside of your skull is quite sharp. And the repeated acceleration followed by deceleration causes your brain (which is just floating in fluid) to ram against the anterior (front) and ventral (bottom) parts of the inside of your skull. Subsequently, when you “cock” your head for the next bang your brain slams the posterior (back) of the inside of your skull. These coup, contrecoup injuries are common in car accidents and tend to cause behavioural (personality, mood, temperment, etc) impairments before they affect your “smarts.”
But look on the bright side, that old myth that youre born with all the brain cells you will ever have and you dont grow new ones is just wrong. So even if you do cause some drain bamage your brain will be quickly replacing them with brand new ones.
Thanks, I used to be concerned about that because I thought that you cannot grow brain cells back.
Well, just think about all those punch drunk prize fighters. I don’t know exactly what head banging does, but nothing healthy.
