Anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs are often called “blood thinners,” but AFAIK they do not affect the viscosity of blood; they merely reduce its tendency/ability to form clots.
As such, I wouldn’t expect ibuprofen to ease the workload of the heart, at least not based on its antiplatelet property.
BTW, the potential for interactions between ibuprofen and citalopram is quite small. There’s just a risk of increased bleeding, and that’s mostly with people who are already being treated with blood thinners or for the elderly or those with kidney damage. If you don’t start feeling dizzy or have other symptoms of internal bleeding, it’s probably okay. But, of course, check with your physician.
I noticed that if you are annoyed advil pm helps. It stops nausea with headaches. It also helps with hunger. So I take two everyday around 10am. The sleep aid in them plays a huge part in activating it to work because regular advil will not work for me at all.
Just to reiterate in this Zombie thread: Street value of ibuprofen among addicts is about the same as retail value. This strongly implies there’s no significant general mood-altering effect. YMMV personally.
However, its ability to relieve pain will make some people happy.
Shit… acetaminophen/hydrocodone doesn’t get me high. It kicks pain in the ass, but there’s no euphoria or anything like that- drowsiness is about the only side-effect.
Still, I understand what the OP’s saying, and have had it happen to me. I think it’s the alleviation of a myriad of minuscule aches and pains that we all have, as well as the alleviation of the headache that caused you to take the ibuprofen as well.
A good experiment would be to take acetaminophen, aspirin or naproxen and see if you have the same effects in the same situations. I get the same sort of physical “good” feeling from all 3, which is what makes me think it’s the pain relief aspect.
A agree with the Doc ^^ - I get migraines and they can suck. Sometimes taking Advil in time can derail it. I don’t get high, but feeling the pain go away can definitely be euphoric.
I have never felt anything from it for pain relief even when taken in much higher than recommended doses. I am almost convinced that it is like a placebo for many people like me. I never noticed any effect from aspirin either except for the blood thinning properties that make it easier to get a nose bleed in the winter. I stopped taking both of them a long time ago when I realized that they have no positive effect for me and I should just save my money. I don’t even have anything like them in my house and haven’t in years. No loss.
My back is stiff in the morning. Whether I take, ibuproben gel caps or not, I’m OK in a couple of hours. However, on days that I take ibuproben gel caps (2) it has occurred to me that I feel pretty good. Its just a general sense of well-being. On more than one occasion, I’ve asked myself ‘why do I feel good today?’. Is it something I ate? Did I get more rest last night? The commonality seems to coincide to days I take ibuproben gel caps, so much so that it occurred to me to run a search to see if others were noticing this effect. It makes me feel ‘better than I deserve’. If any of you are runners, I’d equate to the feeling one gets a couple of hours after a run. So, I’m not doing exercise anymore, I’m just popping a couple ibuproben. I’m joking, of course, but the temptation is there, and if you take it when you don’t need it, what will you take when you do need it?
Not exactly, but as someone observed, better than I deserved. Noticed a few times after taking a big dose for dentistry that I could really focus on my work with some intensity. I’ve never taken speed but isn’t that an effect? Worth looking into.
I definitely get a gentle buzz if I take one of the Advil Cold & Sinus pills if I have a sinus headache. After the headache goes away, I feel pretty darn good for a while. My wife says I get a little chattier and more upbeat for a little while. Maybe it’s just being free of the headache, but I do enjoy the lift that it gives me afterwards.
I don’t get buzzed, but I do experience an “Ahhhh” feeling, which is probably the absence of pain rather than anything else. But it IS lovely - and very noticeable.
Yes, Ibuprofen does it for me. It gives me a mild but noticeable feeling of energy and freshness, like I awakened from a good night’s sleep. Sometimes if I am feeling low I am tempted to pop a coupe of tablets. It does get me out of a bad, sad mood, though only for a couple of hours. BTW, is Ibuprofen the same as Paracetamol, or is Acetaminophen?
