A movie was released regarding that unit. It is even available at many video stores, but the name is a bit different. I can’t remember the exact title, but it seemed to have been released as a snuff flick before they really became popular, almost like the producers were proud of what the unit had done.
The@book I mentioned earlier was by Saburo Ienaga and the English title is The Great Pacific War. It refers to much of this “experimenting” as well as what seems to be the typical methodology of the Army in China at the time. Pretty graphic and disgusting. Found this link about Ienaga.
Like to add some facts to this hijack. The Chinese invasion of Tibet began in October 1950. The formal enthronement of the Dalai Lama took place in November when he was at the age of 15, where he was given full temporal power, two years early than the normally accepted age. Prior to a Dalai Lama?s majority, a regent holds the temporal power. AFAIK, please cite if otherwise, the Chinese have never accused the Dalai Lama of directing the Tibetan resistance to the PLA, either in 1950 or anytime subsequent to that when he fled to India in 1958 and the subjugation of Tibet completed in 1959. Even today, the Dalai Lama espouses peace and not violence. The Chinese accuse the Dalai Lama of attempting to split the Motherland and advocating Tibetan independence, however the Chinese do not accuse the Dalai Lama of war crimes nor of leading armed violent resistance to the Chinese.
Urban Ranger, in case you didn’t see the other thread Why didn’t the US support Tibet , this would make an interesting topic in GD.
However, this is GQ. According to Marriam-Webster, it is not necessarily a prerequisite that a geographic location is de facto and de jeure independent to be subjugated.
