I have to use LOTUS NOTES for an internal application. When you log in, it translates your password into egyptian hieroglyps. Is this real? Or is it just some bored programmer’s time killing exercis?
It’s a rather obscure security feature. It’s supposed to make it tougher for some hacker to substitute a fake login dialog to capture your password. The pattern of glyphs is always the same for a given password, so if anyone paid attention to it, they would notice something was amiss. Whether this is worthwhile is debatable.
(It’s also not hieroglyphs anymore. Now it’s keys or something.)
