Does Louis like Michael? (Theroux, Jackson)

I’ll keep this short because I haven’t got much time.

Louis’s documentaries tend to be sarcastic, usually letting the subject’s weirdness do most of the work (of ridicule), asking mostly innocent questions.
I watched tonights docu on Wacko, and it was just like the others. But at the end Louis said he was a fan and that he genuinely wanted spend time with him.

Was he being sarcastic? Was the docu a genuine interest in Wacko?

Louis’s comment “do you want to see M settle down with a boyfriend or girlfriend” (paraphrased) I think wasn’t a suggestion that M is gay, but is due to Louis himself being gay. This resulted in M’s dad and the other guy (I’ve already forgotten their names) to say “We hate gays”. I wondered if Louis was tempted to say he’s gay.

As always with Louis, neither us nor the interviewees can ever be sure whether he’s being genuine (and naive) or cynical (and calculating), or a combination of both.

I think Louis cares more about ‘Michael the person’ than Martin Bashir ever did - Louis would interview ANYONE interesting or odd, famous or not.
