Mahogany comes from at least three different tree species, Honduras mahogany, African mahogany, and Phiippine mahogany. The Honduran, or Mexican, species is the real thing. Here’s the details.
There’s also a mahogany stain which is commonly used on mahogany wood, but which will also give plywood, oak, or maple that “mahogany” look.
In my Ancient Homeland of Panama we have a reforestation program. So we planted a couple of dozen hectares in Mexican Mahogeny and I hope to have a nice harvest in fifteen more years.
