Let’s say that Dan & Roseanne are cleaning their attic and they find a J that’s been sitting there for a decade, in a suitcase (or something) they forgot about. On a whim, they decide to smoke it. Will they still get high? Will they still get as high as they would have if it had been fresh?
:Cough, cough:
They’d be better off smoking pencil shavings. That weed is going to be so oxidized that they aren’t going to feel anything but pain.
So then how long does doobie “keep”?
The problem is going to be heat and oxygen getting to the weed. If you keep it in an airtight container in the freezer, it will last for decades. In a baggie in a hot attic, maybe a couple of weeks. The THC will still be there (the only thing that degrades that is light) but the delivery system will be trashed. They’ve found potent hash in Egyptian tombs.
Hah! I saw that episode while at the dentist’s office being tortured a few weeks ago. Dan & Roseanne found some pot in Darlene’s old bedroom and naturally assumed it was Darlene’s pot. David took the fall for her, pretended it was his, and got reprimanded. But as it turned out, it was really Roseanne and Dan’s long-ago-forgotten stash. Dan said something like, “Remember, honey, we decided to quit and hid it?” and she replied, “Quit? I just thought we ran out!” At some point during the episode they smoked the pot, got all stoned according to TV’s version of what stoned people act like, and had to hide their condition from the kids. Hilarity ensued. It would have been funnier had I opted for the laughing gas, but I was feeling cheap that day.
I can say with much certainty, absolutely YES. My situation was not a loose pre-roll, but instead a container (35 mm film canister) that probably offered considerably more protection from air, light and heat that a Zig Zag paper, but still, YES…
(AS high, maybe not, but that is already a very subjective thing in the first place.)
wait…what did you say before that?
There is a particular problem with a toxic mould that grows on old cannabis. Police in my jurisdiction store cannabis in heat sealed bags after all the necessary testing is done, but are very cautious about opening it again unless it is necessary. Even when its not lit up, the mould can be dangerous. They destroy it in high temp industrial furnaces.
I googled "cannabis toxic mold"and got a heap of sites.
Confession. When I was a pot-smoking youth, (this occurred I believe some time in the area of 1965-66) I once stole some marijuana from a museum.
I was looking at the exhibits and there was one that had, behind glass, a very attractive small box of cannabis, I somehow remember a date on it, 1927, and apparently it was the kind that was legally sold in pharmacies, I imagine in that era.
I found that if I slithered the glass slightly, it actually would slide and I could get my grubby fingers inside. Which i did. I removed the box.
My friend and I hurriedly made our way to some bushes to roll it and smoke it.
It turned out to be very harsh smoke, producing not even a buzz.
edit: If you are a museum curator who noticed that a box of cannabis went missing in the mid-sixties: mystery solved.
Reminds me of when in High School we had a cop come in to talk to students about drugs. He had a display brief case of small samples of all diferent types of drugs.
During lunch he locked it in the trunk of his car. He came back from lunch to retrieve his case only to find the trunk had been forced open and dope stolen.
Sorry for the hijack,
Yeah I’d think pot would go bad depending how it’s stored.
