LOS ANGELES (AP) - Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage is a new father.

His wife, Alice Kim Cage, gave birth Monday to a boy, Kal-el Coppola Cage, in New York City, said Cage’s Los Angeles-based publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were available.

I wonder if Nick’s son will ever get into a fight with Kevin Smith’s daughter, Harley Quinn.

I know another Kal-El.

His father used to pencil a Superman book, so there was definitely some fannishness there. But, as Kal, it’s a perfectly functional name. Beats “Apple”, or “Seven”, that’s for sure.

Jon Bogdanove’s son, Kal-El. Cute as hell and was the model for Franklin Richards when Jon drew Power Pack.

My brother in law is a HUGE Superman fan. My sister, OTOH, is not, Sure, she’ll watch an episode of Smallville with him, but really doesn’t know much about it. I have told him that if he and her ever have a son, that he should try to get his name be Calvin, and the middle name start with an L. Sure, to the naked (and my Sister’s) eye it appears safe, but his nickname could easily be Cal L. (Kal-El.) :stuck_out_tongue:

Nicolas Cage is probably Hollywood’s foremost comic book fanboy, so the baby’s name doesn’t surprise me at all.

I think Penn Gillette’s daughter, Moxie Crimefighter Gillette, could take on Kal-El Cage and Harley Quinn easy.

I am so going to have my son’s middle name be “T’Challa.”

Well, he and Samuel L. Jackson can share that dubious distinction. :slight_smile: Seth Green and Freddie Prinze Jr. are big comic book fans too, and I believe Bridget Fonda is as well. I hear a lot of Hollywood celebrity-types shop at Golden Apple Comics in L.A…

Yup. He’s all growed up now, and making films with my brother. Looks more like Kevin Smith than Franklin Richards these days, but a hell of a guy.

What the hell is wrong with the name “Apple”? How is that any more unusual than a name like Rose or Daisy?

I too am surprised Cage didn’t name his son Luke.

Mostly I just wonder why I never saw a picture of Mrs. Cage before. Because damn.
