If someone has a pre-existing health condition, and you do something to trigger that health condition while you are in the process of committing a crime, yeah, you absolutely bear legal and moral authority for what happens to that person. This is a pretty well established legal principle: the Eggshell Skull rule.
Hey, you know how conservatives keep on wanting to go back to the 50s? Remember, in the 50s, we elected as President the leader of the largest violent antifa organization in the world.
I mean, isn’t this sort of rationalization covered by, say, the age of 12? “If they jumped off the Empire State Building , would you jump too?” was my grandmother’s counter to this sort of “but they did it too!” ‘logic’.
You really think if Donald Trump could have gotten the certification delayed, he’d ever allow it to go forward again? Please. “Suspending democratic processes until the emergency is over,” is a text book authoritarian power grab. It’s literally how Hitler ended up in control of Germany.
@Uncommon_Sense : I think you’d benefit from taking a few minutes and learning more about the “alternate slate of electors” strategy and how 1/6 was intended to trigger it:
And, yeah: while the Capitol was under siege, TFG was eating burgers, watching the carnage unfold on Fox News, and trying to get Republican Senators on the phone to convince them to help you overthrow a legitimate election.
As I said upthread, it’s a really untenable position – based on the facts – that this wasn’t a frank coup attempt.
May I ask, in sincerity, if you watched any of the 1/6 Hearings?
There are no questions in this thread that you haven’t asked before, there are no points you haven’t made before, and there are no evidence-based responses that you haven’t heard before. I don’t care for this remake of “Groundhogs Day”.
Which it was. It kind of had to be, as a mob trying to lynch some of the people engaged in the proceedings had succeeded in breaking into the building.
And then the procedure was started again, as soon as sufficient forces of law had removed the immediate danger to the lives of the Congress; which latter was delayed by Trump’s refusal to act, but he didn’t manage to prevent it altogether, or delay it until after the appointed day for the job. Were you suggesting that they should have waited until nobody was angry any longer?
Glad that you’ve acknowledged that danger existed.
Attempts to use the BLM protests as an excuse for the insurrection are asinine. The BLM protests were about trying to get the police to stop murdering people of color, the insurrection was an attempt to overthrow the government. Joe Biden was duly elected and the incoming head of government- to interfere with this transfer of power was seditious conspiracy. Pretending that BLM protests were worse and that no Capitol Police were killed or injured is willful ignorance of the facts.
