Does Physical Development Of A Woman Indicate Onset Of Menstruation?

I didn’t want to hijack the other thread about the pregnant 11 year old, so I’ll ask my question here.

I know when a female starts menstration has a lot of factors, but I was wondering, does it at all related to the outwardly developement of a girl.

For instance, I knew girls as early as 5th grade that started to develop breasts and get all, for lack of a better word, curvey.

My question is for females, do these outward developments relate to whether or not you start to menstrate?

For example are there any female SD’ers that developed breasts and curves early on but didn’t get their period till much later? Or are there female SD’er that started to get their period first but didn’t develop outwardly till much later on?

Being a gay male I never concerned myself with things like this, but the other thread got me to wondering

It corresponds pretty well. I’d say there are very few girls with obvious breast development and womanly body fat distribution who aren’t yet menstruating. There are more girls who don’t or never will have much body fat, boobs, or hips who get their periods regardless.

I’m 25 now and most 12-year-olds I know have breasts my size or larger. I do have feminine hips, but they didn’t begin to appear until my later teens and weren’t fully fleshed out until the last two years. When I got my first period I was 5’4", weighed 85 lbs and had no curves to speak of and not much body fat either. I’m an inch taller and 20 lbs heavier today, I still don’t carry a lot of extra fat but I’m within normal ranges (I’ve been through a lot of tests to make sure I’m really okay at such low weights).

I needed a bra by the age of 11, but my periods didn’t start till I was 14.

Breasts seen through clothing will *not *tell you whether or not a girl is menstruating. A girl can have breasts for months or years before she has her first period, with 1 or 2 years being the most common. Almost all girls develop visible breasts before they menstruate, though, so if a girl has *no *breasts, chances are she’s *not *menstruating yet.

Breasts seen and, more specifically, palpated without clothing, may give a doctor a decent guess, but it has to do with the development of glandular breast tissue and the position of the areola (raised or flat) and shape of the nipple, not just the filling of a bra. If there is glandular tissue and the nipple is the only thing raised, it’s likely, although not certain, that the girl is menstruating, and if she’s not and she’s 16 or older, it’s probably worth checking out why not.
