We’ve probably all heard someone say “mmm, smell the Testosterone” in response to a bunch of men being stupidly macho.
I know it is only a figure of speech, but does Testosterone actually have a distinctive odour and if so, what is it like?

Well, steroids are odorless. Not much to smell, but the concentration might be the issue: so little mixed in with the oil that might not have enough umph to have an odor. Everything from testosterone to synthetic testosterones are fairly odorless. I recall one or two for vetinary use only that had a slight sweet smell.
Having opened up a jar of the reagent grade stuff and taken a sniff, I can unequivically say No. Testosterone has no odor. It does however break down, IIRC by losing it’s 4-5 double bond, into a compound that does have a distinctive steroidal odor.
Brut or Hai Karate, I forget which.
