I ask because I just wrote a hefty check to the US Government (income tax). I was reflecting upon the myriad ways that the US gov. manages to squander our taxes…so I wonder, are we still paying to broadcast the truthto the “godless commies” behind the “iron curtain”?
I still have memories of the commercials for this outfit-it showed radio announcers (in the commie bloc countries like Poland) with their wouths gagged, while a solemn voice announces “how would you feel if you could’nt get the truth”?-then the scene switches to a cleancut guy yakking into a microphone, speaking the truth to the poor opresed masses behind the iron curtain.
I suspect that (give the government’s reluctance to end any good thing), that the funding for this agency is still flowing! Does anybody know if this is still goingon?
Damn, I’dlove to make big bucks broadcasting to the only commies left (N. Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia)! 
The most listened to U.S. Government sponsored radio is Voice of America.
It is widely listened to by the youth in places like the Balkans because it broadcasts popular American music.
Not sure why the U. S. Governmnet sponsors VOA and RFE.

Anyway, propaganda isn’t just for Commies anymore. It’s for anyone the US Government (and Clear Channel Broadcasting) wants to influence, and that has extended to formerly Communist countries (the Balkans), drug-running countries, and, most recently, Islamic-majority countries. RFE, VOA, and their close cousins in other markets are all doing the same thing: Spreading the American meme complex far and wide, free over the air.
