Does Tardar Sauce the grumpy cat have a deformity?

Tardar Sauce here.

Tittle says it all.

Yes, obviously.

His name certainly has a deformity.

Thanks!

The tittle has a deformity too.

NO - Tardar Sauce

As deformities go, this one is adorable.

The name is intentionally spelled wrong. (By his owners)

What at first glance appeared to be a cat named by a small child who can’t spell turns out to be a cat named by an adult with a small child’s sense of humor.

I’m pretty sure that Keeve is trying to tell you that ‘title’ only has one ‘T’ in the middle.

Oh, gotcha’.

Can’t believe I missed that.

That cat is at DEFORM 5.

Grumpy Cat is not amused by this thread at all.

In any case, it’s not like this cat is going to be warehoused in some crummy institution to hide the family shame (as was often the case for families when one of the kids came out not quite right). I’ve little doubt Tard will be lovingly cared for her entire life, with the trivial inconvenience of having cameras pointed at her now and then.

People are way too quick to criticize others & also they are way too quick to blame inbreeding for everything. Special Kitties (cats with disabilities, deformities, defects) that are able to survive deserve to have a chance to live & have a good loving forever home too, in fact they more desperately need to be adopted & given a chance at life than other kitties do. Never underestimate a Special Kitty! My most intelligent, capable, fastest, coordinated cat is a little one-eyed black cat who is part Siamese. Another of my cats who has no known deformities or defects at all has a natural facial expression that is every bit as grumpy looking as Tardars, yet the grumpy face means nothing-he’s one of the sweetest, most easygoing, loveable cats I’ve ever seen. He’s friendly to humans, cats, dogs, and other creatures.

There’s nothing at all wrong with the owners of Tardar putting together an act to go along with their kitty’s facial expressions. In fact, if their cat does have some sort of deformity they have a wonderful opportunity to show the world that Special Kitties need rational open-minded understanding, good loving forever homes & the chance to live more than other kitties do.

One should not automatically jump to conclusions & assume inbreeding is to blame for everything that happens. Inbreeding can be a very valuable tool in fixing desirable characteristics in a breed when used by knowledgeable breeders. Virtually ALL breeds of purebred domestic animals were established at first by inbreeding to fix or set the desired breed characteristics.

The Siamese gene pool is large. The Snowshoe breed is generally considered a hardy breed.
The Snowshoe is generally healthy, although some may have a kinked tail or crossed eyes, remnants of its Siamese heritage.

Unless a snowshoe cat is a REGISTERED purebred, there’s no way to know its ancestry for certain. There are MANY unregistered snowshoe cats around. The snowshoe cat is simply a Siamese cat with the dominant white spotting gene added. Snowshoes evolved out of the Siamese breed back when the Siamese was a stockier hardier cat longer lived cat than most of today’s model-thin fine boned show type Siamese. The gene for point color is a recessive gene for thermoreceptive partial albinism & many ordinary colored cats carry the Siamese gene.

There are many things that can cause deformities or defects in an organism. Environmental factors such as infections, viruses, malnutrition, toxin exposure, etc in a pregnant mother can damage her unborn offspring in different ways, depending on what developmental stage the unborn are in when exposed.

Genetic mutations can & do happen at any time & in all species. Dominant genetic characteristics are obvious, an animal either shows the effect of the dominant gene or else the animal doesn’t have that gene. Recessive genes can be carried hidden through many generatioins & will not reveal themselves until two carriers of the same recessive are bred together.

And remember, there is no creature alive who is as much a master of giving dirty looks that could kill as the average cat is! As I’ve learned form personal experience, even a cat with only one eye can give me some of the dirtiest looks I’ve ever seen whenever I refuse to share my cheese with her!

I think you mean “midle”.

Most of the time articles mentioning seeing him in person comment on how “mellow” the cat is in crowds vs normal cats (ie no reaction). That cat is seriously retarded and his owners are hauling him around like a stuffed pillow to exhibit, but he’s alive and well cared for vs being killed at birth for being deformed, so I don’t imagine he should have many complaints.

We’re great at pointing out typo shit like that. Plus it often is the only time we get to make a funny.
