Does the body odor of great apes smell like human BO?

So, if I understand correctly, body odor is largely a function of the kind of bacteria that grow on us. Yes? And this varies a bit by genetics and diet, yes?

So if a chimpanzee ate more or less a human diet, or vice versa, would we smell alike? Or is there so much variation between individuals that it doesn’t make sense to speak of the way a species’ body odor smells?

The advantage that great apes have is that they don’t try to cover up their B.O. with gallons of perfume.

The chimp I occasionally fed and cleaned up after at college smelled nothing like a human. I admit I never sniffed his armpits.:stuck_out_tongue:
