Does the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) still exist?

I know the north Portland branch was shuttered without notice and locks changed, in mid meeting, back in 2024 Eagles headquarters shuts North Portland Lodge - North Peninsula Review. I have heard nothing about a reestablishment elsewhere in Portland, and when I went to the main FOE website both the membership page and the page listing where chapters are located both are listed as “Under Construction”. What is going on?

Some Google News digging reveals they’re still in operation in many parts of the country as recently as last month. There’s not a lot of news articles about them, and none that I saw that were about any kind of nationwide operational or fiscal crisis.

Their wiki page hasn’t been much updated in ~15 years. Suggesting they’re probably composed mostly of aging members, and like all such social fraternal orgs, seems now to be dying of old age.

This article from Jan 2025 is relevant to your local situation. If you haven’t seen it, it might round out your knowledge a bit:

There is in fact an Eagles lodge in my town, and it still appears to be active from what I can tell. It’s got one 5 star review on Google from 6 months ago, for what that’s worth.

There is an active FOE chapter here in my small Ozark Mountain town in Missouri. They do a fundraiser every autumn where they buy bicycles for kids. Or backpacks. Something.

The local Eagles club has been running a yearly cancer telethon since 1954. So, yes, active.

We have one in my rural western PA town. It is a place where people gather to socialize, drink, play bingo, etc. It is also used as a venue for weddings and other parties. They also contribute to the community with regular fundraisers and charity events.

When I was a kid in the '70s, we used to go to the Eagles Club “Aerie” (club facility) in Green Bay for Friday fish dinners. I know that that the Aerie was torn down a couple of years ago, but some googling indicates that the local branch of the Eagles is still active there.
