Does the mafia Still hold Country-Wide business meetings?

In 1957? the mafia held a big meeting at an estate, in the upstate NY town of Apalachin. The meeting was raided by the NY state police, who nabbed a few interesting characters. I recall that the Mob family bosses were from cities like NYC, Chicago, St. louis, Buffalo, jersey city. etc.
Anyway, does the Mob still hold such meetings? How are matters between the families (that run the mob in the various cities) decided upon? Suppose joe bananas (who runs the mafia in phoenix), finds out about a Chicago interloper whose selling drugs in his territiory…does he contact the Chicago boss, or does he just have the interloper whacked?
Is there a great deal of cooperation, or is the mob mostly a bunch of independent operators, who rarely get together?

There is no such thing as the “mafia”.

Newcrasher’s right.

Mack Bolan killed them all, then moved on to the Terrorists.

Seriously, I found this site, acedemic in tone, that suggests that organized crime was never as monolitihic as it’s myth suggests.

It even mentions the very meeting in your OP. Short answer = No.
