Does this device exist? Powered woofer converter

I recently picked up a new AV unit for my home theater. I figured I’d be able to use the speakers I’d been using… and, for the most part, they work just fine.

Except for the subwoofer, that is. My old system used standard speaker wire- you know, the dual thin wires with stripped ends. However, the new system only has a jack for a powered subwoofer… which I ain’t got.

It seems silly to buy a new subwoofer, especially since they’re so damn pricey. I’ve already got a subwoofer, but since it’s non-powered, it’s useless. Heck, I don’t think I’ll even be able to craigslist it for much, even though it’s in perfect shape.

My question, then, is this: does anyone make a device that functions as a powered subwoofer, but which has, instead of a speaker, a pair of standard speaker wire terminals?

You just need an amplifier. If you don’t mind what it looks like, you can scrounge up any old stereo receiver or amp at a garage sale or craigslist - plug the new system’s sub output into the amp’s tape or line input, and connect the corresponding speaker terminals to the sub.

You will need to do some twiddling to get the sub amp’s volume set appropriately, it will probably look funny (especially if you wind up with something too large to hide behind the subwoofer) but it will do the job.

Yes you might be able to find something on this site.
