I think he wants to play golf for the next four years and complain about losing.
He is doing barely enough to make it seem like he is trying to win the Election.
But seriously with 6 weeks to go he’s playing golf in Florida!
Why would he not be spending every minute possible in the crucial swing states campaigning?!
Nobody who wants to win talks about eating pets.
There is no point for either candidate appealing to their own supporters. You actually have to engage the small amount of undecided voters.
Trump didn’t want to win in 2016. He wanted to get a lot of attention and transfer that into a Trump News Network where he’d be able to be on TV whenever he wanted and keep some of his cult. If you look at video from when he was announced as the winner in 2016, his face is “what the fuck did I get myself into”
However he does want to win this time around because it’s his best chance of staying out of jail. He’s also motivated by wanting to do a revenge tour and hurt everyone who opposes him. However, he has never been capable of putting in hard work, and his age-related decline has really increased the last few months. He couldn’t stay awake during his trial. He’s more incoherent than usual. I think being in public taxes him when before it used to energize him. All else being equal, he’d like to win, but he’s simply not able or willing to put in the work necessary to make it happen now. He’s basically just checking out and hoping he still wins anyway.
Didn’t he play golf for four years and complain about the election being rigged against him when he actually won one?
You are greatly overestimating the pubbies’ base. It’s not that he’s talking about “eating pets”; it’s he’s talking about “immigrants eating pets”. In short: he’s further demonizing minorities.
He had zero interest in doing the job when he had it. And his ego has him believing the country owes him the presidency.
I think a combination of stress and age is getting to him. Running for the presidency has got to be stressful even under the best conditions and it’s exacerbated by Trump’s legal troubles and perhaps knowing that a significant portion of the American population can’t stand him. He’s a malignant narcissist, yes, but I can’t help but think coming into contact with evidence that so many people hate him bothers him a bit. You don’t announce to the world how much you hate Taylor Swift if she hasn’t hurt your feelings.
Does Trump want to win? Yes. But I don’t think he can deal with a world that’s increasingly hostile towards him, so he built himself a little cocoon, a safe space as it were. A place where the nasty women, Biden crime family, crooked Joe Biden, and the corrupt communist, marxist, America haters can’t get him. He did the same thing when he was president. He ran away and golfed a lot because the stress of actually running the country was too much for him.
I’ve said that I believe Trump is on a suicide run. Either he’s going to be elected or crash spectacularly. But now I’m starting to wonder if he’s going to go out, not with a bang, but with a whimper.
And with such a load of ego and overconfidence (among other things), he probably thinks he can win just by showing up at enough rallies and ranting at Crooked Comrade Kamala on social media. Why not spend some time relaxing on the golf course and reward himself for his exertions by stuffing his face with McDonald’s burgers?
I’m not sure he wants to win, but I 100% believe that he does not want to lose. I know it’s one or the other, but if there was some way for it be neither I think he’d prefer that.
I’ve long (i.e., since early 2016) thought that he does not want the job of being President, but he badly wants the perks that go with it. He wants everyone to stand when he walks into a room, and the band to play “Hail to the Chief.” He wants people like Putin and Kim Jong-un to treat him as their equal. He wants reporters to hang on his every word. Let’s face it – he wants to be the only person in the room who gets 2 scoops of ice cream.
He hates to lose; he wants to beat everyone that challenges him, hugely, and to be seen doing it, bigly. Beyond that, the presidency isn’t something he really covets for its own sake.
This is my take. Look at how he rants about leading in every poll, by a large amount. That’s just not true. Look at how he says Harris is “dumb”. That’s just not true.
But I think he actually believes that, and more besides. I think he’s bought into his own lies, and really thinks the election is in the bag, so why waste time and money trying to win?
I’ve waffled back and forth on whether Trump believes his own lies. A confident man doesn’t brag about his poll numbers, ratings, or crowd sizes. A man who believes he won a debate does not keep complaining how it was rigged against him. A confident man doesn’t have an assistant whose primary job is to print out flattering articles written about him. Trump is a deeply insecure man who can fool himself much of the time but sometimes even he has to face the truth about himself. And he can’t even stand himself.
Yes, I’m sure he wants to win. Being President gives him access to the things he values - money, power, and public attention - in amounts he won’t get in private life. And having experienced a post-presidential life, Trump is aware of this.
But Trump is running into the wall of his own limitations. One of those limitations is his fundamental laziness. Trump has spent his whole life having things handed to him. He never learned the discipline to work hard for anything.
Yes, exactly right. The only difference between a Trump victory and a Trump loss is that in the latter case his slavering minions aren’t sitting atop a fascist government under construction. He himself fucks off to nurse his grievances either way.
And speaking of his minions, I’ve said this before, and continue to believe it: Trump may feel he doesn’t need to fully engage with the campaign grind because his underlings have assured him they’ve implemented the necessary measures to successfully counter Democrats’ rigging and prevent a stolen vote rig state election machinery and steal the White House for Trump. Maybe it’s bullshit, maybe it’s not* — but it’s the kind of tears-in-the-eyes “yes sir we’re fixing it for you sir” nonsense that would allow him to self-justify not working that hard, without admitting that he’s just old and tired.
*To be clear, the fact that they are trying is certainly not bullshit; what may or may not be bullshit is their competence and comprehensiveness in enacting a foolproof plan for election theft.
