For the past couple of years, I’ve subscribed through Cox Cable. The local Cox edition actually listed most of the channels carried by my local Cox company. Granted, maybe you can get the TV listings for free online, but if you’re sitting on the couch on your day off looking for something to watch, there’s something to be said for just picking up the TV Guide from the coffee table and looking at the listings. Now, we have just another celebrity magazine with a few prime time listings as an afterthought. I, for one, am only too glad to assist TV Guide’s suicide attempt–I’m canceling as of today.
TV Guide is publishing two editions of the magazine now (as opposed to the hundreds they used to for each cable company): one with Eastern time listings and one with Pacific time listings. They realize that they are no longer the Bible for TV listiings, and with various other new ways to get listings (TiVo, Internet, etc.), they’re changing their format and printing less copies, expecting readership to go down. Based on the responses to this thread, their plan is working.
