It was also used as the opening theme song for the classic TV show Here Come the Brides.
It makes more sense when you remember he might not be in California.
I went looking and found two not only about my hometown, but literally the Southend neighborhood I grew up in and my family still lives in.
I lived in Silver Spring for several years and never heard of this, but it’s cool, thanks
AFAIK he never made up a song about neighboring Hoboken, NJ in spite of being born there.
If I am using a contemporary song for London, I’d think Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks would be the obvious choice.
Checking on Wikipedia, there are probably almost 20 Lodi’s in the world. Why not Lodi, Italy? ![]()
On a serious note, I believe Fogerty is a (Northern) California boy, so I’m sticking with the most likely scenario.
True, but it’s sung at every Riders game in Regina, so close enuff.
Definitely these two for Chicago (but mostly Sweet Home Chicago). I don’t think the LSD song is obviously Chicago unless you live in Chicago.
Add in “My Kinda Town” by Frank Sinatra.
There are only two San Diego songs that I know of, and they both have the same title.

London Calling
Streets of London
Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner
London Bridge is Falling Down

I think that was the point. I prefer the Sprung Monkey song because it absolutely smacks of the '90s SoCal punk-rock sound that was all the rage when I was a teenager, but having not been back since I moved away in 2004 the video for the Toven’s song is a real nostalgia trip.
Interesting note: Joel originally wrote the song about his hometown of Levittown, NY, but decided that “Allentown” sounded better and changed the lyrics appropriately.
Of course, the most famous one is about a whorehouse.
I probably missed it but no mention of Nutbush City Limits?

The video is all about the California town.
