Dog Is Very Sick, Got into Meds

Sending healing thoughts to you and your dog!

I don’t believe they have any flavor. They are gel cap type pills. No smell or anything. He has always been bad about getting food off counters if I leave it out, but he has never done anything like this. I also was wondering if this was indicative of some medical issue and the vet said no. But she did say it could be mental or that he is bored. He is older and it’s so hot down south we can’t go to the park as much. I am thinking he needs more stimulation. When/if he pulls through this I am going to take him to doggy care and look into getting someone to come and take him for walks during the day while I’m gone.

I went and saw him at the vet this morning before work and he seemed good. Was very alert and happy to see me. Tried to escape. All good signs. I’ll know more later when vet calls after they do another blood panel.

Thanks again everyone for the good thoughts.

This is very good to hear and I hope he continues to show imorovement. Please keep us posted!

Glad to hear he’s feeling better.

Living Well, I’m happy that he’s on the mend. My beloved beagle, Buddy, finally succumbed to old age (15 1/2) in January. A few years back, he spent a few nights at the vet’s for pancreatitis, because he’d downed his entire bag of Christmas treats in one night. Silly dog.

BTW, if you’re already over your comfort level for cost, you might ask the vet if you can continue to treat him at home. And if the labs are trending in the right direction, and seems happy and alert, maybe suggest that they don’t need to keep taking blood, etc. unless there’s a compelling reason.

Here’s hoping he’ll be good to go home tonight. Sounds like he’s on the right path and making a great recovery.

Now for the hard part… looking around at home and trying to imagine what other non-food items he might decide to try eating next. Hopefully he has learned his lesson, but best to doggy-proof your home just in case.

I’m so sorry. I’m glad he seems to be pulling through.

I’m just going to go hide all my medications from my cats now.

Poison control centers get more calls about animals than they do for people (of all ages). With one exception, every case of lead poisoning I’ve been involved in treating was in a dog; it usually happens when their people are renovating an old house, and apparently dogs really like the taste of lead paint. :frowning: We would fill a Chemet order and send it off to a veterinarian, who would give it via tube (the capsules smell like someone broke open a sewer) and the animal would usually recover if it was caught in time.

Hope your doggie recovers. <3

It’s also possible he associates the kitchen counter with food, and figured that bottle must have had something worth eating in it.

I hope he is continuing to improve and you can bring him home now!

Oh no! I’m sorry he got into the vitamins, but am so glad he is feeling better!

What a relief! I’m so happy to hear he is on the mend.

How’s your doggie doing, and is he home yet?

I’d like an update too if there is one.

Hey everyone, sorry I took so long to return. Thursday morning I had to go out of town and just back late last night.

Anyway, my dog was given a clean bill of health on Friday. He is doing great. No sign that anything even happened. The bill was just under $3,000. But I had to do it. He would have died without the treatment.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and concern.

Great news. I’m pretty sure that a picture is required now.

I’d love to post a pic of Wally, but not sure how to do it.
