Dog (tiny Yorkie) skin question.

My little Yorkie is of the silver/blue and tan coloring. She usually gets professionally groomed about every 2 months. In June I was sickly and I sent her to the groomer and just said cut it short. And she did. It was easy to take care of and she been getting bathed about once a week since then. I’m thinking she’s getting ready for a hair cut so I bathed her ( can’t go to the groomer stinky:)).
Well, I was drying her & She has 2 blackish spots that were never there before. One near her ear on the back of her head. Another on her back about halfway to her tail. They are not raised or sensitive to her. I’ve spent a bunch of time brushing this dogs hair because when it’s long it tangles easily. Can dogs get skin cancer? That’s my question.

Well, hell. That was wriiten without being understandable.
I said I brush her hair lots. So I see her skin daily. It’s only when she was wet that I noticed the spots. God, I cannot get this out right. I’m fretting over this. Do I need to go to the urgent care Vet today?

Yes, dogs can get skin cancer. They can also get sunburn, bruises, or any number of other skin conditions, ranging from really serious to inconsequential. If the spots are not sensitive to her, then I’d call your regular vet first.

They might be ticks, if you have a magnifying glass or good camera zoom you can check that. Sorry I cannot directly answer your question.

IANAV nor do I own a dog nor know much about dogs, but having spent five minutes with google, I feel qualified to say the spots do not seem obviously serious. Reading this page and adding the fact that your dog’s spots are flat, not painful, and on hairy areas of the skin, they seem likely to be benign melanomas. Apparently malignant melanomas are more common on non-hairy areas like the toes. This site says only 10% of malignant melanomas occur on haired skin.

Hope this helps. I think you should definitely take the dog in to see your vet, but I don’t think it’s an emergency.

No not parasites. It is her skin. They are flat and dark. Her skin is kinda the color of the silver hair. Lightish. I’ve looked her over good. Those are the only 2 spots.

Oh, thank you. I couldn’t bring myself to google it. She has a vet appointment Friday.

My partner’s Schauzer has about a dozen of the same circles. They are harmless growths according to several vets.
