It’s an old wives tale that dog and cats can see ghosts, and i heard a version of this that if you looked through the frame of their ears toward what they were looking at you could see ghosts.
these beliefs (well, at least the first one) seem like they stem from the animals perking up andor concentrating intently on empty space andor staring at walls etc. what exactly is my dog doing? do we have any idea? i can only theorize that he’s like smelling faint smells or hearing very high-pitched or quiet noises, but it still creeps me out… especially if high (me, not the dog).
anyone?

With dogs’ acute hearing, they can often hear things practically miles away, things that we could not pick up on at all. This should explain it.
As far as whether or not they can see/hear ghosts – well, the only sure way to find out is to ask them.
holy crap! really? so my dog can hear my car pulling toward the house even when it’s still a few blocks away? that is so bitchin’
i had assumed my dog had the same intuition as the little guy with the fridge light…
Maybe it’s a little dog with the fridge light. That would explain everything.
But seriously, it would seem to have to be the dog’s acute hearing that has it able to hear your car blocks away. Although in my experience, dogs can start to perk up their ears and run to the door minutes before someone comes home. Hearing or intution???
