This will be my shortest OP ever. Posting from work.
I just took a shower, got dressed, and drove 40 minutes northshore for a shift at my per diem night job.
Turns out I got the wrong date.
*Next * Saturday.
See everybody at home in an hour!

I’ve done that before. Well, not for a night shift but the same general concept. It’s sooo annoying and embarrassing. Working Saturdays sucks too ><
I’ve done it before also. I usually work 5 shifts a week, all 3rd, and am off Tuesday and Thursday. I was ready to go to work, shirt and tie and all, driving out there on Wednesday night. I got there and they told me I was off, so I took the opportunity to wander to the bar.
Turned out to be a good night.

On the whole, I’d say showing up for work when you’re not scheduled is a far, far better thing than not showing up when you are scheduled.
Way back when I worked a 5 pm - 3:30 am shift, on the road and living in a hotel. I would normally wake up around noon, get breakfast/lunch, watch a bit of TV, then pick up something for dinner/lunch break at the jobsite and head out to the plant a little after 4 (it was a ways out of town and we always had a half hour shift overlap).
One day I wake up without hearing the alarm, glance at my watch, and panic because it’s already 3 and I need to get moving. I take a quick shower and head out for something to eat, expecting to head out to the plant as soon as I’m done. As I’m eating, things don’t seem quite right for 3 pm. Turns out my watch said 9, not 3. A bit of graphical dyslexia, so I had a few extra daylight hours to enjoy. D’oh!
From memory, the worst I’ve done is turn up exactly one hour early to work. Not a time change thing, I just genuinelly thought I had two hours until work instead of three when I woke up.
Try you work the next day. You keep heavy curtains on the windows for when you work nights you can sleep days. You fall asleep maybe 5:00 at night. :o zzz You wake up at 7:00 to realize the alarm isn’t set, and you had to work at 7:00. You rush your ass off to get to work and open the door to leave. The sun is in the eastern sky. You had a two hour nap. :smack:
When I was in grade school I used to get awful migranes. I would come home from school, puke, and fall asleep. Everytime it got me, I’d wake up at 7:30 and I honestly couldn’t tell if I was late for school (the next day) of if I missed dinner until I asked someone. “Hey, is it today, or is it tomarrow?”
I was a week early to a Fountains of Wayne concert, and I thought it was funny that everyone in line had Gwar paraphernalia on…fortunately I figured it out before entering, otherwise I’d have to buy new clothes…
The story of my life at uni. sorry to hear, man.
I’ve never actually gone to work on the wrong day, but I did come close once. Got up, showered, dressed, went out to the bus stop… wondered why the bus was late, especially because there was nobody else on it… and realized halfway through the trip that it was Memorial Day. Oops.
Been there, done that.
