I think we have our presidential portrait!
The clip @OttoDaFe is referring to can be seen here:
As regards Trump’s lawyer, there is also another clip that is relevant:
Thanks for posting that (for some reason I can’t get an inline link to work anymore). Just a nitpick, in this clip he’s talking about the earlier Fox interview; my quote came from a later interview on NewsMax.
Consensus from the panel is that his strategy — to the extent he has one — is to play to the public in general, and to the one gullible juror in particular, trying to make a pause seem reasonable (“just to make sure everything is on the up & up, what’s wrong with that?”). What’s wrong with that is the minor quibble that the ECA doesn’t allow for pausing the certification, something the judge is almost certain to point out to the jury as part of their instructions.
Which court order? I missed it.
Wow, I am gobsmacked. It truly sounds like Trump’s own attorney just admitted on a national broadcast that his client broke the law.
How NOT to lawyer 101
Not to mention that Pence himself has contradicted Lauro, very clearly saying he was asked to reject the votes outright, not call for a pause.
And it can’t be Pence who’s lying because Trump said he’s “Too Honest.”
My birthday! The perfect gift would be Trump in an orange jumpsuit being hauled away in chains.
Generally, statements by someone’s lawyers are considered statements by the client’s agent and admissible. I have to think that wouldn’t apply to confessions, but I’ve never seen this situation before.
it was mentioned last night that no one from trump’s family was there. the judge had family there, but not the defendant. huh.
interesting how many judges were in the courtroom. after dealing with hundreds of cases, i guess they wanted to see the leader of it all arraigned.
reporting is that trump is hopping mad that the judge called him “mr trump”. i say good enough for washington. surely good enough for trump.
interesting how not only doesn’t trump understand “right to stay silent”, his lawyers don’t as well.
I’d certainly trust Pence’s word over Trump’s lawyer. I seem to recall that Pence’s lawyer was also consulted so presumably he’d also be able to testify about what happened?
Only if Pence waived the privilege.
How’s about gluttony?
Trump — who loves talking to people both in person and on social media — got a clear warning at his arraignment against talking too much to people who might be witnesses in the election conspiracy case he now faces.
It’s a restriction that could prove especially difficult for Trump.
“That wasn’t jury “tampering”, it was jury “Trumpering”, a completely different and perfectly legal thing that I alone can do. What was that? No, I don’t have any family, so they can’t jury Trumper either! It’s just me!”
Donald Trump Jr.: “Denying my existence just proves how smrt my dad is!”
Everyone else: “Did you just make a typo while speaking aloud?”
This is the thing: This trial really won’t be about the facts. Pretty much everything Trump is factually accused of doing, has been admitted by Trump at some point, we all saw it happening live. Has he ever denied making those phone calls? Nope, not as far as I’m aware. In fact, he quite often brags about those very phone calls.
This case will be determined entirely on the basis of, was what he did a crime? Of course Trump is of the opinion that everything he ever does is perfect&legal, so this all comes down to, can he convince the jury of that?
One of the seven deadly sins (pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony and sloth) but not in the bible. DJT has aced these. Back to the DOJ thread.
I can see this. It’s like the people who worked on the Apollo program wanting to see the Apollo 11 launch live in person. “This is where I was when history was made!”
His strategy seems to weigh heavily on appealing to the court of public opinion. If he wants to try those arguments in an actual court, I think he’d have to testify, and I don’t see him subjecting himself to cross examination. But I think he’s unhinged, and you never know. Maybe he’ll change it.
And he may be stupid enough to actually think that will make a difference in a real court. Winning in the court of “public opinion” while losing in actual court is just a fancy way of saying, “Let’s have a war!”
