Dollar store salsa recalled after glass pieces found in jars

The chunks in some salsa turned out to be glass, prompting a nationwide recall of Mild Chunky Salsa and Medium Chunky Salsa recently sold at Dollar Tree and Deals, Dollar Express and Dollar Bills stores. No injuries have been reported.

We’ve bought dollar store salsa before. Tasted fine. It’s been awhile so the recall doesn’t effect us.

Olam Tomato Processors Recalling Salsa For Glass Pieces

The recalled products are Mild Chunky Salsa with UPC number 3927759137, production code L12142 and best by date of June 2015 and Mild Chunky Salsa with UPC number 3927759137, production code L04093 and best by date October 2015. Also recalled is Medium Chunky Salsa with UPC number 3927759139, production code L01313 and best by date July 2015. The label says “distributed by Greenbrier International Inc.” You can see all of the product labels at the FDA web site.

The company thinks that no product remains in retail distribution, but customers most likely have the products in their pantry or fridge. To locate the production code, look on the glass jar below the cap and above the label. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. I have to say it’s really good salsa.
The dollar store also carries some name brand products at significant savings.
Flour tortillas at Jewel - $2.25, exact same thing at the dollar store for a buck.
