Wasn’t there lottery, early in the history of the internet, for domains or domain names, or somethingt like that?
Peace,

I never heard of it but then again…
Until like 5 years ago domains weren’t as cheap as they are now. In 2000 they were running about $75/year and cybersquatting was limited to those pretty darn well sure they had something.
I know certain “new top level domains” came on the market and they did things like “pre-register” before opening to the public. Like when the .eu domain came in, they allowed people who had a copyright claim to stake out their domain first. Such as Microsoft.eu or Google.eu etc, etc. That way it’d help prevent cybersquatting.
Perhaps then the TLD had a lottery for comman word names, like paint.eu or cabs.eu etc.
