Dominions 3, anyone?

I just picked up a copy of this game, and I am loving it! I thought I had kind of outgrown fantasy games (along with a decline in my fantasy reading) but this one really does it for me.

For those that may not have known…

Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game, that seems quite simple on the surface… get territory, draft troops from same, use troops and a commander to take next territory.

But the very depth of the game continues to astound! You can set your troop formations up, research magic (in like, 6-7 different schools), build forts, spread faith, etc. etc. etc.

Sadly, for reasons I can’t go into in a lot of detail, I don’t have a copy of the manual (which I may rectify in a few weeks) at current. I’ve heard that in and of itself, it’s a heck of a read. 300 pages!

So, is anyone else playing this?

No, but I plan on picking up a copy when I return to the States for Christmas. I played the crap out of my Dominions II demo after giving it up twice in disgust, coming back to it again, and finally being able to enjoy it after I figured out how blood magic, province defense, and learning how to craft magic items work. I admit to having enjoyed the III demo slightly less, but the buzz indicates the game is much more balanced.

Forgot to mention that you can download demos at www.shrapnelgames.com for 2 and 3, and you should if youre into turn-based fantasy wargaming and dont mind something that can be a little difficult to pick up.
