Don Cheadle

From Hotel Rwanda to Hotel for Dogs…

Dude

Wait, what?

Next stop, Iron Man 2.

Are we just listing his filmography or what?

Traitor was awesome.

He totally rocked in Ticker, one of the short films in The Hire.

I don’t begrudge any actor for cashing in like Cheadle is hoping to with Hotel for Dogs. I mean, think about it. This stupid dog movie will probably be seen by hundreds of thousands of more people that Hotel Rwanda. And most actors, even celebrated award winners, have a limited shelf life. I say, get it while you can. And keep making great movies as well as the occasional dog*.

*did you see what I did there?

Well also famous actors often owe somebody a favor somewhere, and that favor sometimes gets called in five years later when you’re already famous.

Reminds me of one of my favorite lines in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon referring to Dogma as the “owing a favor” movie.

There’s always room for a Kevin Smith quote:

I’m pretty that was intended to be self referential. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back being the “owing a favor” movie.

Definitely since Dogma was actually good unlike Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

He was so appalling in Ocean’s Eleven - IMO the weakest link in an otherwise brilliantly entertaining movie, though that’s probably because I’m English and his accent sucked so badly - that when I saw Hotel Rwanda I didn’t even realise it was the same actor until about half the way in, and had to confirm that it was indeed him when the credits rolled. Which further confirms my hypothesis that it was his accent that put me off, because he was superb in the latter movie.

He’s one of the greatest actors of his “generation,” whatever that means. Let the dude have a paycheck, as long as he doesn’t altogether quit doing great work. *Traitor *is awesome (cept for the lame ending).

I don’t see what was so lame about the ending.

The bus surprise? Tigga please.

I thought he pwn3d in Traffic.

I think he’s really bland. He’s never stunk up a screen, but he’s never lit one up, either. And just being in that piece of shit Crash is enough to bring his stock down for me.

Cheadle was excellent in Rosewood as well. I recommend everybody watch that movie, though it’s not for kids. [tangent] My DVD of it is the only DVD I own that requires you to flip the disc over half-way through the movie :confused:[/tangent]

But yeah, if only you could rely on an actor’s participation to know it was a good movie. I haven’t seen many bad movies with Samuel L. Jackson or Morgan Freeman…oh wait, “Shaft” and “Bruce Almighty.” Ah well.

It seems that half of the stuff with Robin Williams is fantastic and half sucks. So
in defense of actors, my WAG is that sometimes they are just a cog. Who directs, how it’s edited, what other members of the ensemble dropped out in mid-production, etc. could play a big part of how the film turns out.

But yeah, favors sometimes must rule in Hollywood.

“I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.”
