Mundane and pointless but also a question.
“Don Quixote” is pronounced Don Kee-HO-tay, so why isn’t “quixotic” pronounced kee-HO-tic? Isn’t quixotic derived from Don Quixote?
Are there other examples of names that become words but are pronounced differently?

I used to read bedtime stories to my little brother before he was old enough to read. One of his favorite storybooks was a kiddie version of Don Quixote. The illustration on the cover showed the old knight on his horse running toward a windmill, followed by Sancho Panza riding on a burro.
Years later, my brother told me that he thought the title of the story was “Donkey Hotey,” referring to the burro.
