Donald Trump and the runup to the 2024 election

Well, you wouldn’t expect Raw Story to use a headline like “Dems roll their eyes at more of the usual from the GOP,” now, woufd you?

Potential October Surprise incoming: Rachel Maddow reports that Trump tried again A FEW MONTHS AGO to pay Stormy Daniels for her silence.

Trump is going to stare at the fry cooker, hold up an empty basket and smile sagely.

I’d like to see him on the Big Mac line.

“Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and Trump’s tie on a sesame seed bun.”

They can’t legally allow him to really work, can they?
Must be just a photo op.

Why couldn’t they? He’s an adult.

That said, it’s clearly going to be a photo op, and if he “works,” it’ll be for a couple of minutes, tops.

Legally? Really?

Since when has Trump or his campaign concerned themselves with the legality of anything? Anything at all.

He will stand in front of the fryer, give a thumbs up and smile for a photo then report how it was the easiest job he ever had and if Harris thought it was tough than she is not qualified to be President then report that she lied and never actually worked at McDonalds.

I just saw Maddie’s report on the new Stormi Daniels hush money story. How absolutely stupid are Trump’s lawyers sending an email saying that they will knock $30K off what she owes him if she signs an NDA and agrees to not say anything bad about him. ( For those wondering, she had a failed defamation lawsuit against him and owes for his lawyers’ fees which have been climbing since she was unable to pay. They finally agreed on $635K all in without the NDA which she apparently paid and is now free of him).

Apparently stoopid enough to claim hackers are responsible. Luckily, they are looking into it.

There’s a certain cleverness to it in that they aren’t offering her a payoff. They’re offering to let her keep more of her own (albeit crowdfunded) money. And since they wouldn’t have to launder that, Trump won’t get into the same kind of trouble as before.

Interesting to see what her silence is worth to him though. Everybody already knows every detail of the story, Trump. Why bother trying to cover it up? It only makes you look guiltier, as hard as it is to believe that is even possible.

I didn’t watch it-how did his Univision interview go? Or is it tonight?

I’m not sure if you’ve heard but they are eating pets in Springfield Ohio. No mention of the great taco salad at Trump Tower.

Mitch McConnell’s admiration for Trump is on display in a new biography of the Kentucky senator.

And with all of that, McConnell has endorsed Trump in '24, because, y’know, Republicans gotta stick together, even if it means electing stupid, despicable, narcissistic candidates.

It’s mind blowing how many campaigns ads I’m seeing that focus on the tiny Venn diagram of misplaced, ignorant fears: ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, CRIME, and…SEX-CHANGE OPERATIONS.

I wish I were kidding. This is not the Onion, Andy Borowitz, or SNL. These are a barrage of real ads, claiming the most important problem our country faces are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GETTING SEX-CHANGE OPERATIONS IN PRISONS.

I’m very saddened that so many people will nod their heads in agreement…but I’m also happy, because that’s all you got?

“Once again, Mister Trump, you have to serve the Big Mac to the customer, not just eat it yourself.”

Attacking on the border is a no-brainer, but I am a bit surprised at just how big a role anti-trans rhetoric is playing in the Republicans’ closing argument to voters. And how little they’re focusing on inflation and other “kitchen table” issues. The last few weeks of the election are generally where you make your pitch to that thin sliver of voters who may still be wavering. I have to think that the audience that would be receptive to an “ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GETTING SEX-CHANGE OPERATIONS IN PRISONS!!” message are already locked in for Trump.

Funny but my quick skim read initially read that as “ in the Republicans’ losing argument to voters.” :grinning:

Anti-woke still resonates in the silo but it isn’t winning over anyone or driving up turnout. It distracts from the arguments that would likely be more winning for them, the economy along with immigration.

The despiration in their ads reminds me of an old SNL skit called “Talk Back”. It’s about a talk radio show that doesn’t have anyone calling in, so the host brings up more and more controversial topics. Eventually he gets to:

As always, the Simpsons did it first.

First thing that popped in my head. I’m surprised the Secret Service would be okay with it.
