Nope, I was checking the polls- yes, he was ahead of Biden- by about the margin of error. About the same amount Harris is ahead of trump- are you saying Harris is 'soundly beating" trump?
It is nice that rather than being 2-4% DOWN in the polls, Harris is 2-4% ahead in the polls, certainly.
Very relevant to this thread is that you might not want to, or be welcome. Nativism, anti-immigrant, and the Far Right is not a major force is the US alone. They are becoming bigger forces across Europe as well, including Germany.
Yeah they narrowly lost that election but the fact that they
won the most votes in all age groups under 59, doing particularly well in the 16-24 age bracket, claiming 32% to the SPD’s 18%.
is a bad sign for the near term future.
Trump can win because resentment and scapegoating of “the other” is not just from Trump. It is the mood of many worldwide.
I’ve been following this thread but lurking. You know how it feels when a nightmare haunts you? That’s how I’m feeling today. I dreamed last night that Trump won the popular vote by 2 million. In the dream, I collapsed and started pounding the floor and yelling, “You maniacs! God damn you all to hell!” like Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes.
I woke up and realized I expect Harris to lose. I’m beyond depressed about it. In 2016, I gamely said things like, “OK, time to be the loyal opposition and fight, fight, fight!” Now that I know how much worse his second term would be over his hellacious first go-round, I have no illusions that anything could stop him. I hate feeling this fatalistic, as I think that if enough of us do that, we’ll guarantee her loss.
I’m still wishing he’ll get hit by lightning before the election.
Be aware of the magnitude of the 2024 red wave effort. It has far bigger than 2022 and includes new actors like Polymarket and Elon. They are working hard to create the impression that the election is slipping away from us when it isn’t . In the past few days they launched a major effort to drive down the national polling averages, which has moved things a bit. A reminder - they would only be flooding the zone with their polls if they didn’t think they were winning the election.
Has the Drudge Report always been anti-Trump, or is that a recent development? And this picture is haunting. But I’m happy to see anyone making fun of Donny.
The latest shot from Drudge, who is often credited as having “ushered in the age of Trump,” comes as the conservative more regularly takes aim at the former president as their relationship reaches new lows.
Drudge has always been conservative, which is why I never look at his site. But he appears to be yet another who appears to be finally seeing the idiocy of DJT.
[B]y the time Trump was in the White House, tensions between him and Drudge had reached a fever pitch, according to those who have watched the dynamic between the two sides sour over time.
The site increasingly featured headlines during Trump’s time in office complaining about a lack of funding for a wall along the southern border and pinned blame on Trump for an influx of immigrants entering the U.S.
By 2020, as Trump was running for reelection, tensions had boiled over, with Trump writing on social media that spring “I gave up on Drudge (a really nice guy) long ago, as have many others.”
Other up-and-coming digital provocateurs in the conservative media space, looking to capitalize on Trump’s sour tone on Drudge, echoed the former president and accused him of selling out to Democrats.
Of the large number of brief pundit articles I have read on the campaign, this is one of the best.
While I do not agree Trump is trying to lose (nor does the author— the headline is misleading), my link makes a strong case that Trump is doing an extremely poor job of campaigning, even by his standards. If DJT wins after that, it will prove the hypothesis that campaigning does not matter.
He won’t be in a position to do nearly as much damage, however. Yes, I’m sure he’ll incite violence if he loses; but he’ll do that if he wins, too, and be in a better position to do so.
He won’t go for that right away. As with the last time, he’ll drum up some BS court cases first. But when they start getting rejected? Do you really think he’ll let it go without even trying a few riots here and there? What would he have to lose at that point?
Him calling for riots, sure. Rioters showing up? That’s the angry gophers only, nothing that will be close to a riot.
Oh I don’t rule out a few individual psychopaths with semiautomatic weapons at a location they believe Trump would approve of. It is the fear of any mass of people heeding his call that I think is greatly exaggerated.
During COVID here in Arkansas, you could very often tell who someone voted for simply by whether they were wearing a mask. In the aftermath of the 2016 election, I remember MAGA supporters sporting “Fuck Your Feelings” shirts and there were Fuck Biden flags in 2020, and in 2024 we have both Fuck Biden and Fuck Harris flags being flown. I can’t help but get the felling these people are just itching to get a negative reaction so they can go off on them.
To be fair, a friend of mine was sporting a “Fuck Trump” t-shirt and got all indignant when he was kicked out of a restaurant. He was under the impression he was fighting the man and sticking for our freedom of speech rights but I think he’s just an idiot.
