The word fascist is so overused that I’ve hesitated to use it — although Trump is the one American politician about whom it might really be true — and although I still say Trump more wants to be a regular old-time Latin American style caudillo.
Past overuse came from left and right. Examples:

He is exhibiting very disturbing behavior wishing he had the generals Hitler had and threatening to use the military for the “enemy within” which is elected officials from the Democratic party.
Yet, it’s still a tight race. The right loves their authoritarians (or is he a totalitarian?).
I no longer trust any sort of check & balance. He already stacked the SCOTUS. He could run roughshod over the country.
Horrible stuff. But isn’t this all well established by now? It’s been in the news multiple times since the book first came out, and again last Springtime, he’s for Hitler.

I hate to underestimate my adversary by saying he is dumb, but he sure is ignorant of history:
First, think of the generals who Hitler ordered not to surrender, and then they did surrender.

I love how Trump’s line of attack on Kamala Harris and Barack Obama are about how tired they are. Trump threw shade at Harris because when she gives a speech it’s only for 15 minutes no realizing it might be because she has the mental faculty to get to the point without the need for a weave of some sort. It never ceases to amaze me how every accusation seems to be a confession.
Hitler’s generals lost the war. They’re losers! And Donnie only likes winners. His seeming obsession with Hitler’s generals seems odd.

If you had asked me twenty years ago, I would have said that patriotism and national pride was close to being a human universal. So how can it be that someone like Trump, a draft dodger with no pride in the sacrifices of our military, can be a viable candidate for national leader?
Answers seem inadequate. Trump, the anti-patriot, has convinced 40+ percent of the country that he is one, while they doubt Harris, who obviously is a patriot working almost daily with our military.
It is like 1940, except instead of Wilkie, the Republicans have nominated someone with Lindbergh’s defeatist views and none of his courage.
Does Harris think it is 1940? Because her day job is mostly about war in the Middle East and Russia/Ukraine, she more possibly thinks that way than the rest of us. But who knows? If she said it privately, her advisers would tell her that the American people will not accept the fact that the US is electing a wartime president.
It used to be that our military was at war, and America was at the mall. Now the State Department is at war and America is at Amazon.com.

Exactly. Unless Kelly has it on tape it won’t matter. And even then I doubt it would. We heard him say very similar things about John McCain more than once it had almost no impact. His voters either agree with him, because they are assholes just like he is, or they assume he’s joking or “talking tough” or whatever or put it in the “I don’t like him but I like his policies” bucket.
Perhaps I should have been cautious and said — universal among American median voters.
According to this poll out yesterday, only 37 percent think the word patriotic describes Harris, while 46 percent say it of Trump:
Not good.

I see in this morning’s news that it has been positively confirmed that Russia is attempting to subvert the election in favor of Agent Orange. Putin has stated that he wants Trump as his stooge. Operators are spreading false stories about Walz being a pedophile. It would seem to me that what Russia needs is for the USA to launch a really serious counter cyber attack on them for trying to interfere with our election.
I think our cyber resources would be better spent countering this shit and otherwise doing everything possible to help Harris and other Democrats win. Once that’s accomplished, we can start fucking with Russia.
Russia of course prefers the Putin worshipping Trump to a competent administration, but honestly I think they care less about who wins than that there is widespread distrust of our institutions and our process by our citizens, and that our model is not seen as worthy of emulation across the world.
