Miller was one of the speakers today. Living out a childhood dream, I assume.
I’m not defending it, but the guy talking about Puerto Rico is professional stand-up comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, he’s doing material, not that it was very funny. I’m not sure that will impact the election much if any.
I would think his childhood dream involves trains, barbed wire and Poland.
I watched most of the Trump MSG rally.
I’m really looking forward to Leni Riensthahl’s film about it.
And they knew exactly what they were doing when they booked him.
It’s worth noting that “Puerto Rico” is currently the #1 trend on Twitter in the US, and these days you have to move heaven and earth for ANYTHING that isn’t sports-related to trend.
You know another state with a big Puerto Rican population? Not as big as New York or Florida but sizable. PENNSYLVANIA.
Yes they already lean D but still … dayum … that sort of racist crap at a high profile Trump rally, it will be heard and help motivate some turnout against him.
They’ve been doing that sort of “it’s totally a joke” dogwhistle nonsense for decades by now. It’s not.
I have not been looking at a lot of media but the Trump supporters are motivated. I have heard comments about this rally like “This is what joy looks like” and “It’s like the convention 2.0”. I don’t know how many new voters they’ll get but I think they are trying to motivate the base and I am afraid that it will help turnout.
The MAGA base will be out no matter what. That he can count on. The base doesn’t get him to 46 or 47% plus of the vote on their own. This extreme hatemongering, one hopes, drives the less sure turnout of the D base up, and gets a few meh Trump leaners to sit it out.
Ghouliani at MSG doing everything he can to turn out Arab voters…for Harris.
“She wants to bring [Palestinians] to you,” Giuliani continued. “They may have good people. I’m sorry I don’t take a risk with people who are taught to kill Americans at two.”
The racist shit is even getting covered by Fox.
“I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” said comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, whose comment was swiftly condemned by Harris’ campaign as it competes with Trump to win Puerto Rican communities in Pennsylvania and other swing states.
Thanks- from that “As we’ve reported all cycle, Mr. Trump has made important gains among Black, Hispanic and younger voters .”
After trumps really nasty racist remarks
"It’s wild. And these Latinos, they love making babies, too, just know that. They do, they do. There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They come inside, just like they did to our country…
He then pointed to a man in the audience and went with what seemed like an off-the-cuff “joke.”
“That’s cool, a Black guy with a thing on his head. What the hell is that, a lamp shade? Look at this guy! Oh, my goodness. Wow! I’m just kidding, that’s one of my buddies. We had a Halloween party last night. We had fun — we carved watermelons together. It was awesome!”
That may be gone, and honestly, I no longer trust the NYT.
Well, we cant vote for Harris any harder, now can we?
Also 8 million Latinos, which he just insulted.
Not to mention some polls have seen trump ahead there only by the margin of error. And abortion + pot is on the ballot. Florida is in play. Not likely- but possible.
Nice nickname. We play a lot of D&D and we are in agreement hs is now some sort of undead. We just cant figure out which kind.
Has anyone tried holy water?
It just makes his hair dye run.
That sort of thing is why such Republican gains among minorities never last long. They are deeply, genuinely racist and consistently alienate non-white people who might otherwise vote for them. So the prediction of the Republicans gaining major support among socially conservative minorities never really comes to fruition, despite being perennially predicted for decades now.
Not sure how much immediate good it’ll do with such a short time before election, though. But if he loses I expect in a few years people will be looking around wondering where the predicted upswell of non-white support for the Republicans went. Again.
Yep. for example in Texas, hispanics who were born here of parents who entered legally, are unhappy with “illegal immigrants”. But then trump will tar them with the same brush he does all latinos and that support vanishes. If MAGAs could just restrain themselves with bashing “illegals” it could work- but being bigots, they cant.
This “everything Trump says helps Trump no matter what” maximal view is just ridiculous. Yes, Trump has upended decades of “normal” political assumptions. But he can still screw up. He’s not invincible. He’s been beaten before and he might still be beaten again.
Thank you for this post. I hope it’s okay that I quoted parts of it (with credit to you) in my Facebook feed.
I’m not as confident as you that this will turn off enough voters to make the difference, but it just might. (Obviously, it should.)
Trump improved significantly among Latinos in Texas from 2016 to 2020, in spite of all his rhetoric and four years of putting it into practice. Biden carried Texas Hispanic voters in 2020, but by 17 percentage points fewer than Clinton did in 2016. There was an enormous amount of handwringing among Texas Democrats after 2020 about the progress Trump and Republicans made in South Texas, and there’s little evidence that tide has ebbed in the years since. Republicans don’t need to “win” Latinos or other minority groups, they just need to improve their margins. At least in South Texas, they have been successful in doing so by focusing on issues such as oil and gas policies and abortion.
I agree with Trump and Republicans about one thing. We do have an “enemy within.” It’s Republican voters.
