Not by lightning, but by James Comey. She was definitely in the lead till then. And Trump rewarded in by firing him. May he rot in hell.
By that point, Trump was the Republican nominee, and a lot of Republicans threw their hats in the ring that year. Like him or not (and I don’t), he came out of tthat crowded field on top. The Republican Party didn’t just pick his name out of a hat.
Donald Trump is a terrible human being, and a worse president. I just don’t think his success is a matter of good luck.
I’m still convinced winning the 2016 presidential election was just as much a surprise for Donald as it was for the rest of us. He’s not particularly saavy when it comes to making or implementing policies and it’s because he can’t help but divide his own party. Trump happened to come along at the right time not because he planned it but because he got lucky. Tump’s a disease that we would normally fight off with ease, but our immune system is compromised and he’s able to take advantage of it.

He was pissed off that his stupid show was canceled and also missed the attention. I think he wanted to start a FOX ‘news’ type network that would make FOX look fair and balanced. Then he could go on TV and spout bullshit whenever he wants.
Of course that’s kinda what he has now. He gets on TV whenever he opens his big mouth.
