Donating tech books to charity

The good folks from the British Heart Foundation are doing pick-ups tomorrow for donations of clothes, books, DVDs, etc. Do charitable organizations have any use for technology books that are in good condition but out of date? For example, I’ve got a book on Weblogic version 7 and a complete set of Oracle DBA books that cover Oracle V9. Are these of any value to them, or should I save them the trouble and chuck them in the recycling bin myself?

Call and ask them. The answer is “probably not.”

In my town, the county library system holds a wildly popular book sale twice a year. Mostly donated books interspersed with stuff that the libraries themselves don’t want anymore. I generally try to go on the first day when the pickin’ is good and on the last day when everything is a nickle. There are always scads and scads of outdated tech books leftover.
