All this says to me is that the people running the parties are really dumb. There is a whole class in our society that suffers from this type of dumb. It feels like a new dumb, but it’s probably been around since the birth of government. It’s the type of dumb manifested by people who spend their whole life in and around government. They do not know how to properly act in our society. They do not understand the rudimentary decorum of email. That’s how out of touch they are.
She is. Helping to elect Clinton is being a good Christian.
The other party has a person who has sexually assaulted numerous women, is probably a pedophile, bankrupted companies and tossed out workers into the streets, sits on a gold throne, cheated on every woman he’s ever been with, couldn’t even get “Two Corinthians” right when pandering to fundamentalists, doesn’t pay taxes, lies the most out of any politician during this election cycle, asks foreigners to help hack this countries secrets, and thinks nuclear war is ok.
Let’s not compare Donna Brazile to Trump. Donna Brazile is about a million times more moral, faithful, and honorable than Trump. What Donna Brazile did is no different than God killing people to teach the survivors a lesson. We should all be grateful that she helped the Clinton campaign in some way.
For starters, grading morality on a curve is about as far removed from Christianity as one can get. Brazile did something blatantly dishonest, not just to Bernie Sanders, but to her employer, and those are not the actions of a Christian woman. If she believes the ends justify the means, I suggest she find a new faith.
And couching yourself in Christianity as a setup for making your lies more believable is not the act of a true Christian woman either.
Jesus said there is only one unforgiveable sin: blasphemy.
Of course, it could be that she’s gotten her idea of what being a Christian is from the politically-oriented rather than from the faithful. Religious Right Christians fall into that trap constantly. News flash: your faith has little to do with your positions on the issues and everything with how you treat people in your personal life. She sinned against Bernie Sanders, she sinned against her employer, and she is unrepentant.
Matthew 12:31? As deep as your theological expertise may be, not all Christian scholars agree. Matthew seems to say that the blasphemer cannot be forgiven because the blasphemer’s heart is so evil, so twisted, that repentance is impossible, cannot happen. Of course, if any blasphemer did ever repent, even one!.. his case goes right out the window.
That is a fairly astonishing revelation IMO. Of course hatchet people on either side have played dirty tricks in American elections for 200+ yrs. But Brazile is not a minor hatchet hack, nor even Corey Lewandowski, she’s the acting chair of the DNC. And she is, or was anyway, fairly highly respected across the aisle by today’s standards. Fact free speculating that a more minor figure like Lewandowski would also do this really isn’t the same as Brazile getting caught doing it, twice.
Yeah and between the two of them, Trump and Brazile, they’ve only groped a couple of pussies. ![]()
Just how “surprising” can any questions be at this level?
“Oh, my god, I didn’t expect a question about the US manufacturing economy! I’m going to have to stand speechless and hyperventilate for five minutes, Mr. Moderator!”
I think it should be pointed out that she wasn’t acting DNC chair at the time and being “liked across the aisle” is a hell of a lot easier when you aren’t actually a politician.
According to the article, this is what Brazile reportedly leaked to the Clinton campaign: “Her family has lead poison and she will ask what, if anything, will Hillary do as president to help the ppl of Flint”.
Does anyone think that question was unexpected by either party? Would either party be unprepared for it?
If you’re going to leak information to help a candidate, that’s a pretty lame question to leak.
As opposed to something only mildly dishonest? This is the most flagrant lie you can imagine, slipping a debate question to a candidate? Yeah, the Baby Jesus is crying a river over that one.
I’m pretty sure Brazile leaked a question about the death penalty.
Great Point.
We had a thread about what questions we’d ask long before the debate, and we were hard pressed to field two full pages of serious questions. Lets all be honest here; there were only just so many flash cards in that deck, so this is a non-issue.
Also, has Bernie Sanders withdrawn his support? No…? then why should you…?
If (as seems highly doubtful) debate questions were being leaked to Bernie as well, that would arguably be much worse: under the pretense of a debate, the Dem candidates are actually engaged in a scripted PR event designed to fool viewers.
I don’t think this argument works very well. If someone is caught cheating, a defense along the lines of “Hey, I can show I didn’t gain much from my cheating” is awfully lame.
It’s quite a bit more than stealing a pen from the office as well. It’s a FIRING offense. How many of us have knowingly committed firing offenses and been unrepentant about it?
But this is normal behavior in the political class. Apparently if you want to be a good Christian, don’t do politics.
Duh.
True on both counts, but not a minor figure (and this wasn’t something that happened years before she was acting chair), and being ‘liked across the aisle’ isn’t as common as it was for non-elected operatives either.
To respond to another theme (not of yours particularly) I think it would be less confusing for people defending actions like this to say it’s justified to act unethically to get what you want, and not try to create a basically self-contradictory form of ‘ethics’ which says it’s actually ethical to do something like this. And as for a special form of ‘ethics’ when running against Trump…this act wasn’t actually against Trump. There’s a need for additional layer of claim that rigging a debate against Sanders was strictly in the selfless interest of saving the nation from Trump.
Correct. However, she was on the DNC staff, as “vice-chair of voter registration and engagement.” http://donnabrazile.com/?p=1436
IMO, a lot of the blame falls on CNN. It’s sketchy enough when news orgs let people that were active politicos five minutes ago become pundits and pretend to be independant observers. Letting them wear two hats simultaneously is journalistic malpractice.
