Don't hate me, but I need to gain weight.Advice?

I second the beer idea. Also, when I was trying to gain weight I drank a shot of olive oil every day. Right now I seem to have hit a plateau but I think I might start lifting weights again. When I was lifting weights last year, I had a ridiculous appetite all the time and I could eat nearly double the amount of food I eat now.

And If that doesn’t work, you could always try weed + Cheetos + Mountain Dew.

Well, bless your little pea-picking heart, elbows, The Great Beer Drinking Diet. I love it!

Seriously, thanks to all who posted some very good information. I have taken a lot of this advice and will see how it works out. I see my doc next Wed and am hoping he will let me start a good regimen of leg exercises too, to try to get back some of the lost muscle mass.

When I reach 450 lbs, should I stop some of this diet?

I dunno, man. You’re an older guy who’s done and seen so many exciting things, right? Why not “change it up” a bit and do something you’ve never done before - get seriously fat and sit around all day surfing the Web and watching TV. That’d be an incredibly new life experience for you, wouldn’t it?

In my experience, the best way to gain weight is to try to lose weight. :smack:

I have always had a weight problem - your kind. I don’t have all the solutions, but I’m at the best weight I’ve ever been. I also have been fighting sciatic issues, and have had two nerve blocks and a few other procedures.

OneChance has it partly right. Unless you are a fruit freak, though, I would eat all the fruit you want. Since I’ve never found cereal particularly filling, I don’t have any trouble eating about 3 bowls every morning. I also munch on peanuts or walnuts or trail mix all day long.

There are two things that have really helped me: swimming and a protein supplement. Swimming helps build all of those little muscles in your shoulders, and helps ensure you gain good weight. Swim with fins, to the extent your feet and calves can take it to keep so lower body weight on. (I also use one of those ball things.) I also take a protein supplement - in pudding every day I can. It seems to help, at least when coupled with swimming and lifting weights.

If you want to gain weight then go on a diet. Seems to work for everybody else.

If you don’t want to gain fat then all you’re left with is muscle so the protein route that body builders take is what you need.

Learn to cook and enjoy you’re new hobby.

oh, I hate you.
