Doomsday: 10 Ways the World Will End- History Channel

Did anyone watch this series?

Doomsday: 10 Ways The World Will End

I should know better than to watch things like this. This series of shows has me really freaked out.

In particular the one about a rogue planet. It shows a planet similar in appearance and size to Saturn, entering the Earth’s atmosphere. To make a long story short, all hell breaks out.

It doesn’t even actually “hit” Earth, it just enters our atmosphere. After causing all manner of death and destruction, in the end, the gravity of this large planet pulls the atmosphere from the Earth, pulls the oceans away, and then pulls and stretches the Earth until it breaks apart. The pieces of Earth are then pulled into the rogue planet and burn up. Bye-bye Earth.

Holy shit!

How accurate is this series, science wise?

Also, the show in the series about nuclear war seems particularly relevant these days.
Another holy shit.

I have to stop watching stuff like this. I can’t sleep. :frowning:

If it’s the size of Saturn, we enter it’s atmosphere.

For Extra-terrestrial 'end of the world as we know it", I can recommend Phil Plaits “Death from the Skies” (https://www.amazon.com/Death-Skies-Science-Behind-World/dp/0143116045). As for man made endings, others can fill you in.

There are a thousand ways for the Earth to die more likely than the Earth coming within 100 million miles of a rogue planet.

That won’t help me sleep any better. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well it was the plot of a three-parter in the original Transformers cartoon back in the 80s, so it must be accurate!

I once ran across this link, called Exit Mundi, on ways the world might end, or at least be radically altered.
