Doonesbury: "What a long strange trip it's been"

I’m trying to find a source (and accurate wording) for the above quote.

I think I saw it on a Doonesbury retrospective, maybe 25 years of Doonesbury or something, but checking the wiki page of Doonesbury anthologies, it doesn’t show up. I thought it was the name of the anthology, but maybe it was a sub-title or something.

There is a 40 year anthology, but I think the one I saw was earlier than that.

Anyone have a source for it? or am I just misremembering

Its the name of a Greatful Dead album and taken from the lyrics of a GD song, I think that’s the original source of the quote. Is that what your asking, or are you asking where it was used specifically in Doonesbury?

FWIW, I have a vague memory of it being used for a Doonesbury anthology as well. Maybe it was just a subheading or on the back or something and not the actual title.

Specifically,Truckin’.

The collection Flashbacks has a variant of the phrase in a thought balloon: “What a long, strange strip it’s been.”

That’s it! thanks, all.
